Orienteering race 2:26:00 [4] 8.2 km (17:48 / km)

Got to the meet and found out Frank was calling the red course a blue course. So the meet had Blue, Orange, Yellow and White. I had just driven 2.5 hrs, so I did the Blue course. This was my first meet with the thumb compass. I loved the metric scale, the way it laid right on the map. I was doing a lot of pace counting with great success. I'm so hooked on terrain association that it was hard to use the compass part. But there were a couple places that I had to and it worked great. I need to practice but I get the drift.
The meet was well attended. The Blue course I did had a red distance but a hideous climb. Frank took us into some areas I had never been before. The old cabin on HWY 67. Another hole that was a re-entrant junction - deep - it was difficult to get out, the sides were so steep on all side. I did not get lost, a couple legs I was not efficient with. Mostly I was just slow. The elevation change did a number on my legs. I suspect the winning time would be around 70 minutes on this course. The controls were all either properly placed or very close. I enjoyed myself!
