Walking 28:19 [1] 2.82 km (10:02 / km)

One last comment on the Bradford Woods Meet. I been to several classic Orienteering Meets using manual punches. A couple of them the meet director arranged the controls in such a way that people were running it like a score O. Thankfully the meet yesterday was organized in a broad loop where there would be almost no gain from cheating.

Orienteering race 2:26:00 [4] 8.2 km (17:48 / km)
shoes: Brooks Cascadia

Got to the meet and found out Frank was calling the red course a blue course. So the meet had Blue, Orange, Yellow and White. I had just driven 2.5 hrs, so I did the Blue course. This was my first meet with the thumb compass. I loved the metric scale, the way it laid right on the map. I was doing a lot of pace counting with great success. I'm so hooked on terrain association that it was hard to use the compass part. But there were a couple places that I had to and it worked great. I need to practice but I get the drift.

The meet was well attended. The Blue course I did had a red distance but a hideous climb. Frank took us into some areas I had never been before. The old cabin on HWY 67. Another hole that was a re-entrant junction - deep - it was difficult to get out, the sides were so steep on all side. I did not get lost, a couple legs I was not efficient with. Mostly I was just slow. The elevation change did a number on my legs. I suspect the winning time would be around 70 minutes on this course. The controls were all either properly placed or very close. I enjoyed myself!

Walking 28:55 [1] 2.82 km (10:15 / km)

I was very surprised my thumb compass arrived today. So I will make every effort to get up to the Indy O meet tomorrow and practice with it. I ordered the type made in Finland. I figured it would be superior to the one made in China. The needle on this one is quite responsive. A new toy for me.

Walking 29:15 [1] 2.82 km (10:22 / km)

Still trying to recruit someone to go with me to the Saturday Indy O meet. So far no takers. I have always enjoyed Bradford Woods. Normally Indy O does it late spring. It will be really cold with some snow flurries on Saturday.

Walking 29:11 [1] 2.82 km (10:21 / km)

Broke down and ordered the thumb compass last night. I'm looking at maybe doing the Indy O meet at Bradford Woods on Saturday. I'm still mulling it over. Bruce may be doing something informal at Cherokee Park

Walking 29:14 [1] 2.82 km (10:22 / km)

I was thinking if I have a Thumb compass maybe I can hang onto it. At any rate, I will need to do something for a compass soon.
