For my rehab assignment I went to the new park that has been opened just south of what used to be Miles Park. They are now calling this segment Beckley Creek Park part of the Park Lands of Floyds Fork. When it is all finished it will be a massive park. The park has been professionally designed and built. I took the walk/bike (Louisville Loop) trail south and picked up the Black Willow Trail which was a wide path covered with crushed gravel. Then I ended on the Sycamore Trail which was a good dirt path. There are many small fisherman trails to the creek. There are also numerous other service roads and trails I did not walk.

The open areas are mainly old farm fields that they drilled in wildflower seeds. The fields ranged from waist to shoulder high vegetation. A few spots were taller than I am. I don’t know if they plan to leave these areas open or introduce trees. Right now they are rough open areas. There are a few mowed fields for athletic activities. Only about 15% of my walk was in the shade.

This will become the premier park within Louisville once it is completely open. It looks ideal for us from say November to March for Orienteering. When finished it would support an 8 hr Rogaine maybe even a 12 hr. For an adventure race it would be tricky on the bike part. A lot of the really nice trails are off limits to bikes. The creek is a series of pools connected by very shallow water – less than 2” deep. So there would be a lot of portaging unless it had just rained.

Numerous building – various shelters out buildings and bunch of buildings left over from the farms.

A real fun time with the Sprint last night. The city parks are such a good advertisement for Orienteering. Here's a conversation from last night.

What are you'll doing? A scavenger hunt.

Me: Kind of it's called Orienteering. See this map you use it and a compass and find these locations.

Oh, Land Nav - it looks like Appendix A

Me: Yes Sir, Orienteering is the civilian name for Land Nav

That is great are you doing it here again, My grandson would love this.

Me: Yes Sir, let me write down our web site on this map and you can see the dates.

Frustrating day - Storms last night knocked out our power, internet and phone. Did not get service back until 5:00 tonight.

Storms hit St Matthews and Lyndon area very hard - 75 mph wind gusts were recorded.
