Adventure Race race 25:00 [5] 0.6 km (41:40 / km)
shoes: Duluth Jack Pine

Brutal portage down 300 M 200 foot drop, then back up after the boat part of the race. Only way I got my boat up was walking backwards pulling with both hands. Going down much easier than going up.

Adventure Race race 4:35:00 [4] 17.4 km (15:48 / km)
shoes: Duluth Jack Pine

Adventure race at Carter Caves. 3.8KM paddle, 6.2KM bike and 7.4 KM on foot. Miscalculated in my planning so with one hour to go all the remaining controls were outside my 1 hr range. I finished at about 5 hrs.

I should have gotten controls 8 + 9 + 10 during the paddle. I would have needed to dropped the kayak and changed foot gear and then bushwacked to them. I was not really prepared for that. Need to think more clearly next time.

The race was organized as whatever mode you want use it, except no swimming. Since the lake controls were out in the lake you needed to use the boat for them. Overall had a great time! As in AR tradition, some controls at great vistas, Shangri Li Arch, Raven Bridge, Fern Bridge, near Smokey Hollow Bridge. First on the lake, interesting view from it. Only negatives 90+ hot & humid and the uphill portage.

Walking 34:06 [1] 2.82 km (12:06 / km)
shoes: Duluth Jack Pine

Interesting note from last night. There was an option to take a tunnel from 2 to 3 that went under I-64. I debated on this but remembered the shriek from some creature I heard when I had tried it, when I added this section to the map.

I gave up about 90 seconds on that route choice but did not know what was in there still and had no desire to find out.

Orienteering race 58:05 [4] 5.5 km (10:34 / km)
shoes: Brooks Cascadia 2015

Disappointing run - lost a couple minutes each on controls on the wrong side of a double spiked fence. I run to the circle on the map and one of circles was clearly on the wrong side. If I read the clue sheet it would have told me the circle was misplaced. Oh well if I cannot trust the circle I'm screwed. It left me in a foul mood if you cannot tell.

I went out on the short course and almost got killed by mountain bikes twice so I packed it in just took the DNF. It was one of those nights.

I got working on the results and ran into several problems. Just upgraded to Windows 10. I know what to do, but it's not happening tonight.

Mapping 1:30:00 [3] 3.0 km (30:00 / km)

Replaced 3 missing permanent controls at EP Tom Sawyer with Glen. The big issue was carrying the driver. Glen and I traded off but it was heavy.

Kayaking 1:25:00 [3]

Adventure Race next Saturday, so I had to get out on a kayak. I went to Long Run Park. Good trial run, wind was out of the W at 20 mph.
