Orienteering 2:11:52 [3] 5.0 mi (26:22 / mi) +1955ft 19:15 / mi
shoes: Ruby Red Slippers

Patapsco/McKeldin - Green
17 controls; 5.5 km; 280 m

Actual Distance Traveled: 8.0 km
Actual Climb: 596 m

Not too difficult but challenging enough (physically and navigation-wise) to challenge me. I chose to do a shorter course partly because I only had a couple hours to orienteer, partly because my left hip has been sore since I slipped and feel on some ice 10 days earlier, and partly because I was going to help with control pickup.

I wound up at the wrong control when I was searching for 10/124 because I headed due west when I should have headed west-northwest, or better yet should have used terrain features more than I did. I wasn't too far off. It only took me a few minutes to figure out where I was and make my way to 10/124.

It was raining closer to home but we didn't get too much rain at McKeldin. The trails were icy. I didn't slip and fall on the trails but I did off trail a couple times.

Orienteering 51:05 [3] 2.2 mi (23:13 / mi)
shoes: Ruby Red Slippers

Control Pickup
5 controls; 2.2 km

Actual Distance Traveled: 2.7 km

Not too many controls or too much distance to cover but three of them were water controls and there were 3 unopened bottles of water to lug back. I ended up leaving the water along with the trash on the side of a road and going back to get them later.
