I overshot one control (109) which I am pretty sure was misplaced. I overshot another control (133) which may have also been misplaced. My route selection could probably have been better, especially on the longest leg (from 113 to 126) of the blue course, but aside from the two overshoots, both of which may not have been my fault if the controls were indeed misplaced, I don't feel as if I made any serious mistakes.

I am a bit perplexed as to why the blue course didn't use more of the park, as it has in the past. There might be a good reason. I probably should have asked the course setter. I'm not a big fan of courses that force competitors to cross the same stretch of terrain multiple times.

Some of the controls were easy to spot from a distance because they were much higher off the ground than I expected they would be. This made the blue course a little easier than I thought it should be.

Course Distance: 7.8 km
Actual Distance: 9.7 km

A very memorable day of orienteering. It was cold, windy, and wet. The streams were much fuller than usual. In at least one case I waded up to mid-thigh crossing a stream. It wasn't until I was past the halfway point that I felt confident that I would finish. Climbing steep hills, even along trails, was tricky due to wet leaves and mud. I probably lost more time looking for places to cross the deepest stream than on anything else. The wet, slippery conditions were by far the most challenging part of the course.

My original plan was to do the blue course. I arrived around 11 but part of the map for the blue course was missing. I was told they would print the missing part but that it would probably take 45-60 minutes. I was fairly certain that I wouldn't be able to finish the blue in under 3.5 hours so I did the red instead. I'm not certain that I would have been able to finish the blue in less than 4 hours, considering how long it took me to finish the red, possibly longer.

Control Pickup

All of these controls were easy to locate, only one of them was part of the red course. The only downside was having to wade through a stream, up to my calves, twice.
