2016 Beer Chase - Loop 1
4 controls, 2.2 km, 60 m
Actual Distance Traveled: 3.4 km
Actual Climb: 42 m
The only problem I experienced on this section of the loop course was when I was headed from the 101 to the 102. I started by heading in the right direction, northeast, but then at some point I turned northwest. I'm not sure what I was thinking. The red arrow on my compass was pointed northeast which means that I was headed northwest. I should have known better.
The other controls were relatively easy to find even if I did have to do a bit of scrambling up and down to get to them. This loop was more physically than navigationally challenging and was a good way to start the chase.

2016 Beer Chase - Loop 2
5 controls, 2.7 km, 50 m
Actual Distance Traveled: 3.4 km
Actual Climb: 47 m
It was a long trip to the first control (111) but I found it without any trouble. Instead of following the stream that ran past the control I headed for the higher ground to the east of the stream. I found the ditch to the east of the stream and followed that until I reached the southward facing knob and then turned south. I was just about there when another person appeared from the other approach which (of course) helped me to locate 111.
I didn't have any trouble finding 112. I walked right past 113 but then doubled back and found it. 114 and 115 weren't difficult to find considering where they were placed.
This loop wasn't too difficult but considering the lay of the land it wasn't a piece of cake. It required a certain amount of care precision in route selection.
