Susquehanna Stumble XVIII
Short Stumble (16 controls)
1st Window: A-B-D-C-E
2nd Window: H-I-F-G
Could have done better but for the most part I am happy with my performance in the short stumble. My one big stumble was going right past the 2nd window. I was shooting for 'H' and I passed close to it but I misjudged where I was on the map and turned southwest when I should have continued to head south. within about 5 minutes after making that mistake I started to feel like I wasn't where I thought I was. I was able re orient myself and turned north. I headed for 'I' but ended up at 'H'. After that it was smooth sailing for the most part.
I did get a little help from other people who got to controls that I was searching for just before I did but that is part of the nature of this sort of event where everyone is doing the same course, more or less.
The weather was beautiful.
The course wasn't easy but it wasn't impossible either. The terrain in this park can be tricky. Not the sort of park to have a go at it without a compass on an advanced course. Speaking of which I finally bought a new compass after losing my last one over a year ago at Cabin John. This was my first meet with the new compass and I think it worked out pretty good.
