Cardio intervals (Trainer - legs) 1:12:15 [5]

Sufferfest: hell hath no fury

Billed as a 4 stage race, but the first is really just an energetic warmup. The core of the session is a pair of TT20 followed by TT3+. I was prepared to struggle a bit because of the limited sleep time last night, but other than feeling a bit too lazy at the end to push the power of the short time trail above the prescribed level, it felt pretty good. Then I rationalized that the TT3 should really be done before the TT20s to get a fair reading.

Average heart rate 161 in the first long interval, 164 in the second. I'm pretty happy with that modest ramping.

Power: avg-196, max-362

Day 3 soloflex.
Not the best set with a pull in the lower right shoulder area so most sets done in slow motion. Most noticeable on over hand pull ups which were a bit weak.

Note

Tree day. I had to do some repairs on the inside tree. After it was situated and we had a hot chocolate break, I took Mrs. to the woods across the river to visit what looks like the first candidate survivor from the next generation.

On the way, we narrowed down the route to the trail to two reasonable options. Both will likely require 15-20 meters of walkway over what will be bog like most of the spring and summer.

oh...a few photos.

no need for a fattie so far

and we couldn't let Palgrave have all the fun

Went north for a few photos of this rare December. Looped a bit south hoping to catch the swans but there were none today.

Got windy, darn windy near the end and brought in a cloud cover. Now time to take Mrs. for a proper tea.

Waited for traffic to thin out and then headed down the south branch of the trail dressed for 4C. It was quite damp and a bit foggy, but very peaceful. I met big group of about 20 seniors twice. A couple clearly had their mind somewhere else because even though they appeared to be looking right at me, they weren't aware that I was there. So...watch out for the grey haired ladies. Based on where I saw them, they seemed to be on a one hour route.

At the extreme south of the trail, it looks like a new dog owner hasn't been indoctrinated into the appropriate clean up protocol. Several days worth of waste were in the middle of the last 200m or so.

I lost 5 minutes and about 2 km when I paused for a drink and to notice how far south the sun has gone from the top of the moraine. Garmin time is logged.

Sight of the day was a small flock of swans refuelling in the MacKenzie marsh. About a dozen of them tucked away in one of the back ponds. I've never seen them here before so it was quite exciting.
