Cardio (Trainer - legs) 47:50 [3]
ahr:132 max:167 shoes: Gekko

Easy session around some short TT tests and a shot at max power. It didn't work out that great. My laptop had a hard crash during the warm up, so I had to reboot to get going again. It wouldn't reboot with the trainer connected, so further delay.

Once I got going again and tried a TT3, the rubber was slipping a bit. I managed 320 (300 for a minute, 320 for a minute, 340 for a minute). The slippage wasn't too bad at low cadence. After a 7 minute recovery I tried again with a high cadence, but couldn't hook up the rear very well so it was a bit frustrating and not a useful measure of the difference on the heart rate.

Another recovery and I tackled a max power. I failed in for 800, which is well within my range, but couldn't hook up. I went to switch from power setting to slope setting, which is how I've done my high power runs before. I like it better because I don't have to push a button 60 times to get there, just shift gears and push on the pedals. But the first run said I only hit 370 watts. Checked the rear and it was way too soft to have any chance so I bailed - not inclined to go get the pump out of the car while dripping sweat.

Mountain bike (Vinnie) 1:16:00 [3] 16.4 km (4:38 / km) +234m 4:20 / km

Meant to be a test for Mrs. and her new travel bike. I heard rail trail when the route was described but it turned out to be an access road. There is a lot of up and down in the Tennessee hills and this was no exception. We tended to go up and down the same 30m at different grades. I read grades of 14% on three different climbs, 10 on a couple more. Not what she was looking for on her first ride, particularly without bike shoes.

3C was comfortable, including for the couple from Tennessee who never ride that cold so went and got some new gear before meeting us. 50km to meet them, then 10km to the ride was a bit unusual for me because I do most of my rides from home.

We don't expect to see above freezing temperatures again this week - not what we expected coming this far south.

The comedy of errors ride.

We're 20 miles west of EST and planning to stay in our own time zone at least until we get back to see some friends later today. That meant it was staying pretty dark, so I planned to put the big lights on and go for a ride. The problem was I had deliberately left the mount for the Diablo on the Stumpjumper because I had other mounts in Pennsylvania, but the big light doesn't fit them. I could have used the helmet mount I had with me but opted for twin small lights. Turns out they were fine by the time I got out.

But first, I jumped into leg warmers, shorts, a couple shirts, socks, thought my legs felt a bit odd. Went to grab my helmet and saw the compression still sitting on the bench beside it, so redo on getting dressed.

1C and quite damp - fog like, but not so much as to hurt visibility. Short 5km loop around the complex and thought of checking the long road, but didn't. Good thing because 2km later my new seat came loose during a climb. No tools with me, but I lucked out with one of the Allen keys in the car being the right size, so moved the fender, tried to position it properly. Close, but not quite so I'll have to go through the micro adjustments again. I had the Park Tool tri-key in my pocket, but didn't feel the need to fuss it in the cold and wet.

Decent ride. Very quiet roads, but they are a bit narrow and twisty. The elevation added up pretty quick with short ups and downs that made for nice natural intervals. Mrs. was up on eastern time so I shortened the ride so we could find a grocery store in town to get some breakfast.

Day 2 free weights and push-ups.
This hotel left out one cardio machine to allow more room for weights. I thought I would try for the 100, but my right shoulde rebelled a bit so all I could manage was 73-60-85

Other warm up/down 57:00 [2]

Hike around the vacation complex with Mrs.
They claim 4+ miles of trail, much of it would be called a sidewalk at home, but there are woods and water - not just the rain. Yes, she agreed to go out in the rain.
