Body says to take it easy today.

Other warm up/down 34:00 [2] 3.6 km (9:27 / km)

Walked home from the market via the woods to see if I could see any sign of the unexpected blue coloured bird that paused in our peach tree for 10 minutes Wednesday afternoon.

I've never seen a bird quite like it around here. It was coloured about the same as a mountain bluebird, but much smaller than the stated size range. Its size was closer to that of a big goldfinch.

Road cycle warm up/down 44:33 [2] 15.2 km (2:56 / km) +172m 2:46 / km

Check out rides of the three bikes I abused during the extended spring showers. After giving each a good spring (again) cleaning of course. Now ALL the bikes are cleaned and serviced again and ready for another round of abuse, though the BikeE has been banished to a hanger in the garage.

Note

Legs are pretty dead after 6 hours mostly standing today. I got to the Habitat build site early to help set up for an out of town group: 12 18l water jugs, 100 chairs, 8 tables and a PA system.

Then started building wall and roof sections - stand and hammer. It turns out it is always handy to have someone around who can read a blueprint.

Note

Just walkabouts today.
But I did sign up for a 6hr race at Mosport June 10. I thought of signing for the 12 hr and see how long I could go, but Mrs. firmly stated the opinion that if I signed up for 12, I would stubbornly do 12 which might prove to be a bad idea.
I have no aspirations of placing. I'd just like to see how far I can go without having to deal with traffic. I think it is soon enough I won't fixate on training. I'll probably plan on 3 short stops at about 2 1/2hr, 4hr, 5hr.

Funny how different it is in a house with no communication, other than an outbound only phone. Finding new homes for a bunch of stuff at the London mom's.

Other warm up/down (Brisk walk) 37:00 [2] 4.5 km (8:13 / km)

10C and light rain seemed a good time to try a fast walk. If it's good enough for the Vancouver marathon, it should be ok for me. It isn't nearly as punishing as running on my joints and I can control my air intake much better.

I can go faster. Heart rate felt mostly in the 120s. I might have nudged 130 when the rain picked up near the finish. I did notice that the faster pace than a Mrs. walk seems easier on my legs, in that I believe I can go farther.

The standing on the left leg while swinging weights in my arms is working well again.

Tricksy weather today.

I had planned a road ride on a morning when roads should be quiet, but there was a heavy fog so I paused a bit and got ready to take the mountain bike on the trails. All set to go and the sun was out, so I put the mountain bike away and got out something for the road. Shortly after getting out, the sun turned to cloud and as I made the turn back west, 18.2km from home it started to rain.

I took that as incentive to try to climb the steepest northbound hill on Kennedy on the big ring. Cresting at 18km/hr instead of my usual 10-12 made for a very speedy descent down the wall of doom. The rain seemed to clear so I turned back south to try for a 40km ride. I got red at all the uphill lights heading back home. Traffic was pretty civilized even on Mulock.

I did get cussed out for riding in the middle of the road - while I was making a left turn. Apparently 70m is too long to be positioned for a left on residential streets. He came up after I was already in the lane to turn, and had lots of room on the right. Maybe he was venting early so he could be nice to his mom today.
