Note

It took a lot longer than expected to install new blinds going to the deck. The valence was cut 1cm too long. The trim 4cm too long. The blades about 1cm too long.

By the time I was finished it was hotter than I wanted to bike ride in.

Day 3 soloflex
Really good dips.
Upright rowing solid, though felt it a bit in the left forearm.
12 PM

Walk/hike warm up/down 40:00 [2] 4.0 km (10:00 / km)

For reasons unknown, Mrs wanted to brave the heat.

Road cycle (Bacchetta ) 1:04:00 [4] 27.3 km (2:21 / km) +202m 2:16 / km
ahr:149 max:160 shoes: Specialized Comp mountain

Proper check out ride of the Bacchetta, or more correctly, me on the Bacchetta. I added a tail light, which I had forgotten. It isn’t the best fit, but should show drivers some flashing red.

5km right turns, 5km hills, 5km left turns, then just stayed away from early lunch traffic. I should probably train myself to unclip the left side on left turns and try to undo years of always unclipping the right and leaning slightly right at a stop.

I felt pretty good with less real effort than the heart rate suggests. I think we’re ready to transport the bike to some open road - as much as I rebel against the idea of driving to ride.
2 PM

Road cycle (Greenspeed ) 48:15 [3] 17.5 km (2:45 / km) +47m 2:43 / km
ahr:132 max:150 shoes: Specialized SWorks road

The last time I changed the Greenspeed tires, I had saved the two that had a few hundred kilometres of rubber left on them. I put one of them on the back while I wait for the new tires to arrive.

This was just a short local ride to see if it would hold up. I swallowed a big bug and managed to spit a second one out.

I had to adjust the mirror when I finished up to make sure I could see what was behind me in my lane.

Note

Braved commuter traffic to find that our Habitat site is powerless.
5 PM

Walk/hike warm up/down 45:00 [1] 5.0 km (9:00 / km)

The power came on early enough that I didn’t have to rescue 3 cartons of ice cream in the Habitat freezer....so Mrs and I walked for local ice cream.

11 AM

Road cycle (Greenspeed ) 1:22:00 [4] 32.9 km (2:30 / km) +100m 2:27 / km
ahr:144 max:168 shoes: Specialized SWorks road

I though I could fit in a decent ride after the road dried from the morning rain and before the afternoon rain, projected for 2pm. I stayed at the south end of Newmarket just in case the storm came early.

I felt pretty good and managed to maintain a good pace for being on a multi use path. I was thinking I could probably sneak in another half hour and maybe even get to 50km when there was a mighty explosion right behind me. It was obvious I had blown the rear tire.

Clearly I had neglected to check the wear indicators when I prepped the bike, rashly assuming that I had at least another season on that. I could only find one wear indicator amongst the three tires so it is time to source a new set of scorchers. Luckily I was just a bit over a kilometre from home.

Note

Started Habitat early fire proofing light fixtures so the lights could be put in.
Then went to level the stairs Vince and I had fought with last week - a bit surprised that they hadn’t been finished off yet.
Some more fire proofing around our finished stairs.
Put in vapour barriers so we could box up the heating/AC ducts.
Then corrected the width of a set of stairs that had been built 8 1/8” too wide, which Vince and I both found a bit mind boggling. It was an interesting engineering exercise though.
