I thought I should go out for a ride with a longer stretch of higher effort so took advantage of the quiet Sunday morning and did laps around the block. 7 cars for the whole ride, though one Mercedes driver again backed out right in front of me forcing me to go around them.

My heart stayed nicely in the 140s and 150s until the last lap when I decided to push for a 30km/hr interval.

Edit: Garmin says recovery time for this ride is 62 hours. That’s just silly.

Note

I took the big, yellow motorcycle out to scout some roads that might have been out of my comfortable pedal over range.

I found the Zepher portion of the York forest trails. Not suitable for my recumbents but it does appear to have a spur running up to Lake Simcoe.

I also found a nice low traffic loop to the lake for the recumbents. And an FTP test candidate for Flight. And tested the viability of motor pacing a fast cyclist.

It’s really hot stopping in full leather.

Checkout of some new drive train components: 2 1/2 chains, ceramic pulleys, tightened cassette, repacked bottom bracket.

It’s a nice, smooth, quiet ride again. The most noticeable difference is that the chain doesn’t bounce off the big ring if I don’t pedal over a big bump. I might have to replace the cassette in a year or so - maybe to the new one on the X7.

Really slow drive to Habitat this morning. Good thing we saved two houses to do inside work on.

Note

Messy day at Habitat. Muck outside was 5cm deep where we hadn’t land scaped. Inside I had to cut holes in ceiling drywall where lighting and venting had been covered over, which I couldn’t find a way to do without showering myself with dry wall dust. The rain made a paste out of the dust when I went outside. Finishing stair Wells was the only clean thing I did.

I left early when the next task was going to take 3 hours and didn’t make much sense to do half of.
