I did an interesting mileage experiment with Mrs new car today as a result of feeling the fuel efficiency wasn’t as good as I would like using the adaptive cruise on mountain highways. There were two things it did differently than I would: it didn’t anticipate congestion soon enough to avoid braking (and wasting past gas); it reaccelerated too strongly when the road cleared - particularly notable on uphills. So...

One tank of gas by its rules. One tank of gas with me cancelling the cruise and restarting once I got the car back up too speed. Comparable net elevation for both. Exactly the same average speed for both. More total elevation on the tank I managed. I got more than 15% better mileage.

A bit windy, but it isn’t going to get an warmer for a while so I went out as soon as the road got mostly dry. It was a fairly any effort, mostly on the big ring.

For reasons unknown, live track has stopped working again. No GPS points make it to be map.

The rain stopped so I went to the golf course while it was drying up. Really nice ball flight with the short clubs.

I thought I could get a decent ride in before the day’s appointments so dressed for 5C (weather channel said it was 7C) and headed to the river path. It turned out to be 0.2C so I was a bit chill for the first 5km.

Then I found another big chunk of the path is closed so I looped around and stayed close to home. There weren’t many people out, other than what looked like a good crowd at the school to vote when I headed home.

I’ll probably put the trike in storage for the winter since there isn’t enough trail open to give it a good run.

Now off to get a 40 year old filling that has cracked replaced.

Dentist appointment got moved later so I drove the SUV to the dealer and walked to the dentist. I quickly realized that my mental image of distance was noticeably short so kept a fast walk. Made it 10 minutes early at a pace about the same as my runs on pavement. Much easier on my joints though.
