Note

I took a motorcycle out rather than a bike today. It’s a nice way to check out possible bike routes without the workout.

My lawn mower has had a definitive failure. I was able to patch it’s electrical system a couple time in the past, but this time it appears that the proprietary actuator has died. The current generation should be able to do a much better job - mostly 1 or 2 battery charges rather than 9-12. Without a mower, I finished cutting the hill with a whipper sniper. I think it might count as a core workout.

North east moraine checker board.

At some point I will switch my TT Challenge from the Giro to the Strada. Today I thought I would get a sense of how much of a gain I might make.

First 20km was the comparison. From a dead stop instead of a rolling 28km/hr and with a travelled intersection to navigate to get to the open road. Hilly instead of flat (something over 100m of ascent, I forget the exact number). A minute faster than my last TT at a somewhat lower heart rate. I feel going to all flat should give me another minute. A full stop on the Strada would give me a penalty of about 10 seconds, so I’ll have to allow for that. But...at my current fitness level I have 2 minutes in hand with a bike switch.

I think I can take another minute on the Giro first though.

It was surprising how much better the Strada rolls. It’s too bad it is crap in traffic. I’m hoping the Basso will give me the best of both worlds, and a 4kg weight loss. The 5th kg I was hoping for will have to be from me.

Beautiful ride in nice safe boxes.

Around town with Mrs to see how opening looks.

The eastern moraine.

Traffic has picked up significantly since I last did this route. The commuter contingent is approaching normal, even with many people still working from home. The GO stations are still nearly empty, so some former transit types must be driving.

Lots of red lights and more wind than I expected. Much of the slow pace was photo stops to show a friend in Norway that I don’t always ride on flat land.

Cruzbike TT Challenge week 8

It was the perfect wind set up for me with a light headwind outbound so I went out to takecthis week’s run at my TT. The air was very heavy with a good bit of mist starting out. I was pretty strong so pushed the first interval into the wind and ended up gaining all of the time I targeted for this week.

A couple of slow corners and a stretch straight into the SW wind made the second TT interval the most work maintaining my previous PB pace. But then I turned the corner back and handily maintained the target pace to finish.

Note

I'm too lazy to search for the air travel refund conversation. Today I did a super simple conversion of my previously cancelled booking to a no-expiry, transferable voucher. They did include all of the fees that had originally been left out of the 'future travel amount'.

Less than 5 minutes start to finish with no human interaction.
