Right knee is quite sore today. I’ll have to check if my cleat has slipped, though it might just be all the twists exiting at intersections while I looked around a small town yesterday.

Just the essential lower back and shoulder stuff so I could get out before the wind picked up.

Solo Ride to Conquer Cancer Hammer distance

The ride has been moved to late August, but like last year, I decided to go out on the original date.

I got out early while the air was still and pushed the effort a bit to make the most of it. I started to feel some wind around 25km, but it didn’t really show its face until 40km. I just did loops around the marsh for the first leg of a bit over 70km, then stopped for breakfast. When I stopped, it became apparent how dirty the canal water they were spraying on the fields as. I got soaked a few times and was able to ignore the dirt I knew was in it until I stopped.

For the second leg, I looked around Holland Landing. Lots of leafless trees there. And lots of caterpillars trying to drop into my face. It was kind of gross, so as much as possible, I stayed close to the centre of the road to be out of reach of most of them.

Back to the marsh to finish up. J and Mrs opted to meet me for ice cream just before I finished up, so I targeted getting in 157km by 1:30. At 145km my Garmin complained about its battery, so I turned off what I could hoping to record the whole session. After ice cream, it was reluctant to turn back on so I threaten to finish with my phone - that smartened it up.

My feet were starting to get fat at about 153km so I had to loosen them a bit. I took extra time on the air compression to try and get things back to normal.

Age rides 16&17 (+5 indoors). This puts me at the 1/4 mark for outside rides

Spelt an extra hour after Pfizer dose 2. Just a bit of tenderness at the injection site. Mrs declared I was warm, but thermometer said 97.9. Perhaps a hint high for me but well within normal range.

Cruise along the river before heading for my second Covid vaccine.

It’s was perfect outdoors weather to start the day and the path was full of people by 9.

Not sure why Garmin didn’t auto load. Interesting overnight load.

A few laps around the block between rains. There was a light mist when I went out, then some garbage truck dodging and an unintended wave in from Mrs.

I tried one more lap when the real ran started, in case it was just a tease. I wasn’t, so I pushed the effort to see if my heart monitor was reading properly. It seems to be.

But, then I had to brake had at the driveway and Garmin decided it was an incident so sent Mrs a message. I was a bit surprised it didn’t include a location. It did give me an invitation to send a follow up “I’m ok”.
