One of the biggest ash trees near my trail fell in the winds early this week and toppled into a couple of others creating a house of cards blocking 15m or so. I went and cleared what I could. Lots of cutting off smaller bits so that I could move them - with a little 35cm hand saw.
The challenge was to sight things so I didn’t risk having more fall than I wanted with that cut. There is still one large chunk over the trail. I trimmed is as far as I could reach, so it won’t fall with a bunch of appendages. I can see one cut that would bring it down safely, but it is several meters over my head and I don’t think I want to climb a tree to get to it on my own.
Hard to imagine how long you can spend on hold trying to find out why you don't have access to an account after submitting every document twice over a 3 month period.

Zwift Tour of Watopia stage 5 (the last)
I picked the A group today because it was a new route. I started out thinking I would take it easy and allow myself to drift to the bottom 100 in a long stage with 400+m of climbing.
I stayed with the main group for the first third, then found a group of 8-12 to ride with for another 15km or so. At that point I decided to let my heart rate drop out of the 160s (an hour was a sufficient workout). I saw a group 12 seconds back so settled into a more relaxed pace with one rider that appeared to be doing the same thing. It took the group 2.5km to catch us and then we both went along with them for a good stretch.
The group separated on the last big climb so once over the summit, I watched for another solo rider to pace with to finish off. It happened to be the same woman I had ridden with between groups much earlier, so we cruised through the finish.
Pretty happy with being able to hold a mod 150s heart rate for 90 minutes.

Zwift Tour of Watopia stage 4
I went with the A group today for a longer gravel ride. As soon as I got there, I could see it was going to be hard to stay out of the bottom 100 today. The group was pretty small.
I got on the bike early enough to get an 8 minute warm up for the legs. Then jumped right into what I hoped would be a sustainable power level. We were doing 5 laps, so there weren’t any surprises for most of the stage. Long downhill to start each lap, and then an 80m climb. I stayed with the main pack for the first lap and a half, but got separated part way up the second climb. I backed off a bit to let a little group catch me and then did the next lap with that bunch of six.
By the fourth lap I was mostly solo, so settled into a pace I felt I could finish the stage at if I stayed on my own. I did find another Canadian I could ride with about half the time, but she as getting tired enough I had to let her slip away from time to time. I was afraid if I eased off as much as her, I wouldn’t be able to get the power back up, so I just backed off a hint and let her catch her breath. By the time we got to the climb of the last lap she bonked and I just settled into my natural pace.
And, that was enough to start passing people who were getting tired and finish out of the bottom 100...so mid pack, without the pack - 20 seconds behind the bunch in front of me and 15 seconds ahead of the last person I passed.

Note
Got got the last of my old people vaccinations today: 2nd dose for pneumococcal pneumonia.
She spent a bit of time to see how I was doing with life. She was intrigued by how I had used the Oura data. It’s very nice to have a good doctor close by. This is the same doctor who called the day after my Covid booster to see how I was.
Oura scored me 93 on readiness and 91 on sleep this morning. Maybe rest days work. 71 minutes for a 5.1km river walk seem to relaxed to log.

Zwift age ride
I had considered riding outside, but remembered I was to get a call from the doctors office today. I went to the Tempus Fugit loop and went for a decent pace.
I did push the 500m sprint and got my 1st, 2nd and 4th best times. Best time was in the first interval, before is was really warmed up and I didn’t really note the power level. The other two short interval spikes are for the 2nd and third pass of the sprint. I’m pretty happy those times during a long ride.
I also got my two best times for the 7.1km TT. Not pushing super hard, just testing pace for a steady power output.
Once I saw I had finishing last years age sub 2 hours, I eased off a bit and started my cool down. I felt pretty strong today, so there is something to the Oura readiness score.
Trainer age ride 5: 10 in total, one day early in the 28 day month
