I finally got to use my Horseshow season pass. We won’t talk about the effective hourly rate.
It was overcast for the drive up, but sunny most of my time there. I used my older skis because the boots fit to them are easier to get on, and a bit more comfortable. Also they are set for me when I wasn’t as strong a skier. I thought the earlier release would be ok.
Got the new pass pretty quick. It now has an electronic ID so the lift gates open for you. When putting the pass in my jacket I noticed my last one was for 2008-09. Who knew!
First run was scary. I forgot how fast you pick up speed and was faster than I wanted to be very quickly. A couple of big gentle turns weren’t doing much to scrub speed...but I avoided a spill at 50km/hr. After that I settled into my crouch early to make sure I could move the skis without risk of cartwheeling and enjoyed the ride.
I mostly skied a run that hadn’t had the fresh powder groomed off of it - rare in my experience in Ontario except for New Years Day. It was a bit more work, but good practice. The other run I did had a few icy patches. All runs had big mounds of saved snow to push over thin spots another day.
When I noticed a bit of a rebellion in my right knee, I decided to take a few more runs to see how well I could manage it (very), then left before a forced sudden move hurt it.
Well worth the drive.
