I had an odd dream last night. Bash and I had a difference of opinion on navigation while on mountain bikes. There was a guaranteed urban route, including a stretch on a heavily traveled road and a less certain, shorter, trail route. I had some local knowledge, but couldn’t recall if the trail had a highway crossing. I suspected not - there aren’t many ways to cross the 404.

Zwift Makuri Island

I started the day thinking I might take a rest day, but felt energetic after lunch so hopped on the trainer.

I ran away from a pace group with 5 others early. We linked up with a bigger group pushing a nice effort, but unfortunately they turned in a different direction after a few kilometres and I ended up riding with one person for about 30km.

We were both punching the sprints, she took green jersey, but we got back together quickly. I got PB on all 5 sprints, including cutting 3 seconds off my time on the last sprint of 480m.

I dropped back to a big group for the last third of my ride.

This course is about 100yd per hole too long for me. A bunch of 450-520yd par 4s. Only 2 par 3 to help you feel good about making a green.

Still a fun recovery day activity when it’s raining.

Zwift Watopia flats

I may abandon my old age challenge, but just in case, I thought I would start out with an attempt.

I started with what I thought was a sustainable pace. It was other than not bringing enough water.

There was a 360m sprint to contest every 10km, so I used that to push a higher effort. The first 3 attempts were within a second of my PB. I set new PB on the last 3 attempts by jumping on the power before the start line.

For the last hour, I settled in with a modest effort group.

Perfect day for outside activity. Zero cloud and surprisingly quiet ski hill.

I skied more of the runs today, basically everything off the 6 chair lift. 1/3 of the time I was on the chair alone.

Again I decided to ski until I felt some stress in my right knee and then do 5 more controlled runs. But I added a bonus to ski closer to my car.

I still don’t fully have my firm back, and am aware that my joints might not support how I skied 15 years ago. I don’t mind though. Still fun out in the air.
