Zwift Makuri Island pace group
I wanted an easier ride today (don’t want to be too tired when I pick up J) so tried not to run away from the pace group. This mostly meant not contesting the sprints. I did get ahead of the group on the long climbs and, again, paid the penalty when group aero dynamics had them fly by at the bottom of the descent. I had thought I had the right plan by staying away until the flat, but the group had so much speed to carry that I had to more than double my power to stay in reach and not have another kilometre long chase.
I did contest what I thought should be the last sprint and managed a top 10 in a field of over 250. Then another sprint popped up quickly and I could only manage 15th. Still, not bad for almost 2 hours into my ride.
Good class with Monica. She ended with a solid nod to Barre.
Even largely taking a rest day, I more than doubled the suggested active calorie burn.
The rest day included finishing the sorting through the last of my film photo library and naming the best shots. This means in addition to digital copies of every photo I took starting in 1975, I have a library of the best of them with some identifying notes. I didn’t count, the the selected photos probably run about 10k.
Should finish the first of four tax packages today.

Zwift Makuri Island
I mostly went with a relaxed pace group going ahead to test sprints and climbs. There were 3 sprints in the first 6.5km, which was a bit early. In all I did 10 sprints, set 5 new PB and only missed beating my old PB twice when I didn’t see the start marker and hit the power late.
2 new KOM PB in 3 tries. The third beat my old PB, but not the earlier time. Twice the pace group got away from my when I waited for it on the descent. I need to remember to match their speed when they are getting close and not their power. I had to ride about 1.5km at 80 watts above their pace to catch them after they blew by - far too big of an energy burn.
Walk/hike warm up/down 1:14:00 [2] 7.0 km (10:34 / km)
I had planned on a longish trainer ride today, but outside was too nice not to check the state of the trail.
More big trees fallen. I might trim some branches soon, but won’t try to clear the trunk before it dries up. I don’t want to slip with a chainsaw in my hand.
After being closed for 3 years, the bridge across the river near the house has finally been opened again.
I knew it wouldn’t be long after Dezellis came back that I would lose my extended stay at the top of the cyclist training heap.

Golf warm up/down 45:00 [2]
FN and I made a last minute switch from sloppy skiing to relaxed golf. A mix of clubs we don’t usually hit and trusty clubs. She handily out driove me. Then we got her chip shot in shape. I assumed I hit half of the time we were there and logged that.
