| I tried the metro transit system today, in anticipation of trying to commute without the car. The plan wast to ride to Edwardsville bus station (12 miles from home), catch madison county bus downtown, xfer to metrolink to Clayton, and finally use Monsanto shuttle to get to work. For this trial, I drove to the station, just to try the system.
Verdict: I left the house a little before 6am, got to work at 8am. I left work at 4:30 (although 5:00 would result in the same end time), and got home at 7pm. The times just are not often enough on the connections to make this very viable, although I gain some time on the bus for reading/rest, I add 1+ hours each way. I also would lose my lunchtime run/workouts at work due to limited lunch hour.
As much as my heart wants to do this, my mind tells me this is not a good thing for my life overall. If I could only get my family to move west! |
