Biking (Berryman bike legs) 7:54:17 [5] 37.7 mi (4.8 mph)
Fun forest roads, awesome Magruderville singletrack. Plenty of gravel. Smooth on the nav here. Many of the bike points were placed off the road where you had to drop bikes and hike in to them. Not just 20 feet back, either. I was really over trekking in bike shoes by the end of the day.
We rode bike 1, got to the TA for the next trek, plotted the points which were mostly way far away, and decided our time was better spent in getting bike points. We finished with 2:15 on the clock still, so in retrospect there are 2-3 CPs we had the time to get to even having made all of the same basic decisions in the race.
That said, the team that would have come in first in our division lost several CPs due to missing a kayak cutoff. The other team had comparable (if not more) CPs than we did and hit the big trek at almost the same time we did. They decided to go for 4 trekking points before hitting the remaining bike leg; they finished pretty close to midnight and ended up with 2-3 CPs less than we had, so we made a good strategic decision. It would have cost us first if the other team hadn't missed that cutoff, though, so we probably should have been more aggressive.
I was really, really happy to be finished, though.
