Mountain biking (BT Epic course minus BT) 5:02:55 [4] 31.7 mi (6.3 mph) +3638ft
ahr:142 max:169 shoes: Superfly SS

I've ridden Berryman a couple times now on the SS but wanted to get a feel for how the rest of the BTE course would go and ride a couple spots that have given me trouble in a non-race situation. Hopefully this was a low baseline. Felt pretty crappy on most of the climbs, no zip in my legs, and struggled with the heat (mid 80's, not the worst).

Rode BTE course backwards from Brazil to Harmon Spring then rode to Bass via the 3 sisters. From Bass rode the BTE last loop singletrack backwards to the gravel then took the gravel road to the start of singletrack at the top, but then Mickey cut in too soon and Chuck and I didn't complain. It ended up cutting off about 2 miles of hills, which didn't make me sad, but I also missed one of the spots I wanted to ride, which didn't make me sad enough to ride back.

After pizza at Bass, back to Brazil via the three sisters. Made it up the first without walking, but it was pretty ugly on the final two. Whatever, I'll take a shitty ride early if it means a better race in October.

The good: I rode a downhill I've always walked (one of my targets for this day), felt much more confident carrying some speed on downhills, and had a fantastic last 3 miles of the ride.
