CW8 with Mickey, Brenden, Renee. Elapsed time was 5:15ish.
Trek 1: 2.6 mi, 29 min, CP 1 - 3 Road run uphill and then down to canoe put-in. Ugh. Walked hills, jogged the rest.
Paddle 1: 6.4 mi, 1:20 cp4 at takeout Paddle from Allenton access to underneath I44 bridge. Brenden is an infinitely better paddler than Mickey, which made this canoe leg infinitely better than last year. We did a lot of holding up and waiting so they didn't get too far behind us.
.3 mi hike up the road to the bike drop/CP5
Bike 1: 2 mi, 30 min, cp6-8 West Tyson singletrack. Um, that was hard. I'd like to go out there and ride under no race pressure.
Trek 2: 3.5 mi, 1:26, CP9-18 Mickey pushed me to do the nav, which was pretty straightforward, but was pretty pushy about go-go-go, which made it hard for me to think. Rather than saying I did the nav, I think it's probably more accurate to say that I picked where we were going next and set the basic route which he then fine-tuned and led. I did have one major bobble on CP15, when I thought the wrong reentrant was right, but luckily he had the bike map and I'd shown him where the CP was and he led us the right way.
Bike 2: 2 mi, 20 min. - CP19-23 Bike down WT singletrack to the canoe take-out. Did some walking of stuff I could have ridden if I hadn't frozen up and got caught at one point behind a huge group of guys, some of whom were riding like dicks - reckless, almost knocked over a couple other racers, no trail etiquette towards trail users not in the race. Left a few pissed-off hikers in their wake, deservedly so.
Paddle 2: .2 mi, 6 min - bikes in boats across the river to the boat ramp below Route 66 State Park. No stress trip across with Brenden as my partner. Volunteers pushing us off meant no wet feet or chance of accidentally going the wrong way.
Bike 3: 7.2 mi, 47 min, CP24-32 Easy nav in Rte. 66 SP back to finish. Barely towed this race, but it was worth having it for that last uphill ride into Legends.
Combination of easy nav/short distance, and difficult terrain for trek and bike. Definitely raced harder than I typically would and didn't die or even feel completely miserable. I really need to get better at moving off-trail and at riding more technical trails. Probably fell a little short on nutrition once we got back on the bike because I was feeling crappier than I should have on the bike during that last section in Rte. 66.
