Backpacking overnighter with Jeff and Jacob on Meramec SP’s Wilderness Trail. We’ve been to that park what feels like hundreds of times, and I’ve never hiked this trail though I did recognize some parts of it from orienteering meets. Hiked CCW to the last site before the 185 crossing. Such a great family day!

After the Grand Canyon train wreck, I was leery of how Jeff would do (though obv this is a far easier hike), so I carried our whole tent and the extra water. Maybe overextended myself a little, but after he took one of the liters of water I felt better.

Beautiful trail, gorgeous spring day after all Thursday’s rain. 6.4 mi to our site, then I hiked down to the road crossing to pick up firewood we’d staged in case the wood near the campsite was too wet (it wasn’t, and we had a nice fire). Slept terribly. I remember being pretty comfortable in that tent in the GC, but I think we slept the wrong way in the tent, plus Jacob has grown a few inches since then.
