| Tuomiojärvi is a little higher than usual so hit a rock I usually see and almost had to re-learn how to do an eskimo roll in some very cold water. Lot of May day crazies out warming up already. Had to argue with some 14/15 year-old boys, who already looked like they had way too much Koskenkorva or whatever the spirit of choice was, in order to get them off the dock. Anyways, can't wait until my daughters are old enough...to go paddling with me, not drink Koskenkorva with boys. |

| Nice atmosphere and map. 11+ minutes of mistakes :/. I could live with a couple of the 1-2 min. ones but there was one huge 7.5 min mistake on the 7th control that was really avoidable. I had drifted right but was dead sure I must be near. I noticed a control but didn't check it since it was on the wrong feature. Well if I had paid attention I would have noticed it was my next control. That would have kept the mistake at 1-2 minutes. Oh well. Otherwise it felt easy to keep map contact and I enjoyed myself. A bit of zig-zagging going on but that will go away as I race more. Still feel physically bad, like running in slow motion. Need to see a doctor soon and see what has been causing this the last 2 weeks. |

| Was doing the smart thing, in bed resting. But the sun was shining outside...so maybe I will just walk a course. Of course as soon as I punched at the start, I had to run. Actually went fairly well considering the way I feel. Map was 1:7500 which was a pleasure to read. Wish they would use this sometimes for shorter races. Towards the end headed off the wrong way on a butterfly loop losing a few minutes since I went all the way to the wrong control before I noticed some guy I had passed much earlier coming from a different direction. Probably the 3rd or 4th time I have done this in the last year. The last time, I swear. Otherwise fairly clean. Felt REALLY bad afterwards...back to bed. |

| This was just above a walking pace. Wanted to check if this unwell feeling is just in my head (some people go to doctors but I run). Clearly not well as I was so weak that I was tempted almost the whole time just to stop and sit down on the road. Have also had light cramps on and off in my guts for 36 hours. None of this adds up to any recognisable illness but I have got something. |

| 4xLaajavuori (back road from Laajari to top of ski jump). Road includes one dip in the middle to recover before a brutal 18%. Did this in new falling snow. Felt good after finally sleeping well last night. This was statisfying training, even if I still am not pushing myself up to maximum effort. |

| Morning check, together with Kimmo, of the map and possible control sites for a "kuntorasti" we are doing next month. We were out during a rare ice storm. Surprised by how deep the snow was in most places, turning it into more of a hike at times. It is going to be a quite physically challenging A-route for this one. |

| Skipped opportunity for night-o. Probably not much more time for these before next Autumn. Learned some new things in course setting school, especially about how to break the rules. I was surprised we were being given tips on, for example, how to fudge the course lengths in the program so the competitors are happy. Heard a lot of stories from the trainer from Savo: "Yks tosi tarina vielä..." x30. Look forward to putting knowledge into practice now in an upcoming kuntorasti I will plan.

There was something else we were supposed to practice too but I didn't really understand the instructions and figured the first thing was enough for me. First real forest-o in Jyväskylä this Spring, still snow but the constant rain is steadily eating away at it. |

| Morning run was turned into a marathon thanks to unfriendly dogs cutting off my route home. Only option, besides risking being bit or hiking through the snow, was a long detour (about 30 minutes extra). |

| Did my homework for course setting school next Saturday. But we are also expecting a kid that day so I hope my wife follows her usual tendency in everything else and starts a bit late. On the other hand, if I have to give a presentation in Finnish on the 16 year old girl's long distance course I drew tonight, it may be better to be in the hospital. |

| After 200 metres, left pedal fell apart, with the guts destroyed. Two hours getting parts and rebuilding pedal before trying again, this time in cold rain. Got a terrible headache from the cold. But satisfied at least I didn't have to take my bike to a mechanic. |
