Saturday Mar 15

Bike (MTB w/ winter tires) 1:17:00 [2]
Training "triathlon" Part 1: started at 7.30am in the snow which stuck to the rear cogs and the last 3 or 4 k's I couldn't change gears. Had intended this part be with a map but too lazy to put on the map holder and draw a course.
Orienteer (street) 1:04:00 [2]
Part 2: Change of clothes and off. Luckily Marilla and Julia were still sleeping so no requests to read books before I ran off. This was a reprise of Thursday's training, just tried different route choices.

Part 3: Tracks in good shape today thanks to a women-only ski event in Laajavuori. It seems men were allowed in the vicinity, just not the priviledge of paying money for...what? To do what everyone usually does for free it seems. Maybe there is a t-shirt involved. Skiing felt good and cranked it up a little in the middle, following behind a racer out doing what for him was probably just an easier workout. Dropped off when I realised I was being annoying by "racing" him. Overall a nice long workout, first of its kind this winter sadly. Started thinking it might be fun to do a one-day adventure race this summer if Vesa is interested. Now I might even be allowed to do some of the navigating...

Early morning. The beginning of a new repair project! Felt good.

On my home map. Led wasn't enough in the forest. Made one 4 min. mistake towards the end where I couldn't see a thing. Surprised to get caught by some old guys and was really pooped at the end.

Plyometrics + trunk. Followed by an hour sliding and splashing in the pool with Marilla.

PM The big melt has begun. Lots of puddle hopping. Stride was Janne Holmen-esque though, so got wet.

Sunday Mar 9

Ski-O race 1:20:00 [4]
Kaipola (Jämsä). First four controls ok but a little fall on the way to 6 and then an old guy went down in front of me on a twisty downhill on which I guess many took their skis off and ran down. Well I just missed hitting the guy but caught my ski on something, went down and cracked a piece on the right binding. It was hard work just getting back to the race centre with a half-broken ski--all double-poling since any skating caused my boot to come out of the binding. Actually a fairly decent workout but an ugly ending to my 3rd (and final?) ski-o experience. Not sure this version of orienteering suites me--would rather be skiing classic in a long race.
