| Another beautiful Spring day in nice terrain. Makes me feel lucky to live here. Brought the family with me which caused a minor amount of stress getting to the race, lots of stops for feeding and playing so I wasn't sure we would arrive in time for my start. Those ABC markets are almost inescapable when you have little kids.
Pulled something in my hip today which made running even more unpleasant than usual. Probably will be an issue for a while.
Course was a little easier than I expected with many flags, especially at the beginning, visible from some distance. I got caught from behind by someone around the 5th or 6th control (?) and I could feel him behind for a while and then we started trading off leading, both going at pretty pathetic speeds. I found this distracting and started trying to run a little faster but kept coming to the controls at the same time because of small mistakes/hesitations. Finally on the only leg with obviously different route choices, I hung back to see if he would go straight and the dived down to a road, tried to run a little harder, got to the area earlier, but came too low and looked up and noticed him smiling down at me from the flag location (now he was bloodied and looked a little nuts). Oh well, going to the next one I saw him pass me to my right. I had a moment of insecurity and went off line in his direction. Biggest mistake of race. He was unsure of where he was going and stopped. I figured out where we were after jogging about the area a little and headed back to the control, making a signal to him where it was. I realised later I probably shouldn't have done that since this isn't a kuntorasti. Then again neither of us were much better than the usual kuntorasti-kind of old men. At this point I just stopped and let him run away. Still all in all an enjoyable day.

| Seuran avajaiset. Mass start but didn't see anybody after 3rd control. Probably the best I have orienteered technically this year. Probably thanks to lots of sima and munkit! One biggish mistake out of 18 controls on shorter "race" going at half speed. Just hope my legs don't feel this tired on Saturday.

| A cleat pulled out from my new VJ Integrators already. Maybe I will have to go back to Jalas, at least I could get a whole season out of them. |

| Tuomiojärvi is a little higher than usual so hit a rock I usually see and almost had to re-learn how to do an eskimo roll in some very cold water. Lot of May day crazies out warming up already. Had to argue with some 14/15 year-old boys, who already looked like they had way too much Koskenkorva or whatever the spirit of choice was, in order to get them off the dock. Anyways, can't wait until my daughters are old enough...to go paddling with me, not drink Koskenkorva with boys. |

| Training near Orivesi with Vesa. Felt better than yesterday. Nasty but interesting terrain. These Apukäyrä maps are not the easiest to read for those of us who like things simple. |
