Orienteering race 58:01 [4] 7.0 km (8:17 / km)
shoes: VJ Falcon

Wellington Champs Long - Fire Station - M40A - 5.87Km 420m

A little bit of pine forest but otherwise boring hilly farmland not suitable for a championship. Just another festival of fence crossings (37 by my count), but fortunately very few electric fences. Not on the map of course, and yet there was a power line marked which gave away the location of one of the controls.

Actually didn't mind it because I wasn't feeling as tired as I thought I was going to be. Lost 15 sec overshooting 12, which was on a very dodgy crag. Biggest time loss was a minute on 13-14 helping a girl who'd lost her shoe in a bog.

Orienteering race 53:11 [4] 8.0 km (6:39 / km)
shoes: VJ Falcon

Wellington Champs Middle - Maraetotara - M21E - 6.5Km 325m

Nice area given that it was farmland, though the mapping of the rock wasn't perfect. Enjoyable as there was little chance to relax technically.

Plenty of time lost, though really wasn't orienteering too badly. Minor time losses at 2, 5 thanks to just not seeing the flags. -15s at 8, -15s at 12. Then -45s when I started running 14-16. Realised before I got too far, but annoying and lost momentum. -30s at 19 going to the rocks just beyond the control. -1.5 mins at 20 thanks to reading the wrong control description. Was completely right otherwise. -45s at 24 where the map was suspect (and I probably picked an unlucky direction to attack the control). -15s at 25.

Didn't feel in the best of shape physically - finding the hills more of a struggle than they should have been.

Orienteering race 19:00 [5] 4.0 km (4:45 / km)
shoes: Nike Air Pegasus 30 Blue

Wellington Champs Sprint - Arataki - M21E

Didn't have high expectations of this as I remember getting bored by the area last time. Turned out to be really well planned though - one of those sprints where you've never quite got enough time to look ahead and you've finished before you've realised you're getting towards the end.

Solid performance. No trouble with any controls. Possibly the wrong route 14-15 but nothing else obvious from the splits. Biggest mistake was losing 5 seconds at the finish when they didn't use the automatic SI Air timing - had to go back to punch.

Physically reasonable. Groin sore on the right side before starting so didn't start too hard, but was able to run OK.

Cricket 1:45:00 [1]

First pre-season net session at Fraser.
Taking it gently so as to try not to be stiff for the weekend. Going surprisingly well with the bat and not too badly with the ball.

Cycling 59:15 [3] 25.73 km (2:18 / km)

The Whitemans Valley loop CW

Very little breeze so able to keep the effort constant. Felt pretty good.

Running 1:04:51 [3] 12.0 km (5:24 / km)
shoes: Nike Pegasus 31

BMR - Pinehaven bush - water tank - Guildford - Avro - Avian. Had to take the longer route along the ridge due to felling.

Stiff and tired after yesterday, so it was, as expected, a battle. Felt better for having done it though.
