Orienteering 15:00 [2] 2.0 km (7:30 / km)
shoes: VJ Falcon

At Scotts Ferry today. First an easy relocation course with Oli. He coped pretty much OK, though a bit random at times. Easy for me at that speed, though we still managed to overtake everyone.
12 PM

Orienteering 36:53 [4] 6.0 km (6:09 / km)
shoes: VJ Falcon

4 shortish courses with 4-5 controls each. Supposed to be doing hard intervals in between and then running at race speed, but didn't want to risk it as back a bit dodgy. Still went at a reasonable tempo and tried to do the courses fairly quickly. First two went OK, though getting tired. Went to pieces a bit on the third one as it had started raining hard and I couldn't read the map. No real mistakes but very hesitant. Feeling absolutely knackered running the last one, but it was very physical terrain. One small hesitation.

2 PM

Orienteering 22:35 [3] 3.0 km (7:32 / km)
shoes: VJ Falcon

Map memory course. Supposed to be in pairs but i was on my own, so had to stop and memorise each leg. A long time since I last did anything like this and found it quite hard to adjust, though found all the controls without problem. Steady speed - trying not to get more tired.
3 PM

Orienteering 26:08 [3] 4.0 km (6:32 / km)
shoes: VJ Falcon

The short course (3.9 Km) from the event a few weeks ago when I did the long course. Just trying to be smooth and in control, mostly successfully. Tired by the end.

Orienteering 18:37 [4] 3.0 km (6:12 / km)
shoes: Inov8 X-talon 212

At Mt Lees for the day. First session was sprint route choice run in pairs (with Greg T.). 5 seconds to look at each (long) leg and then run. First orienteering in quite a while but pretty easy stuff, though not particularly sprint-like.
1 PM

Orienteering 12:36 [4] 2.0 km (6:18 / km)
shoes: Inov8 X-talon 212

Sprint length course. Sprint level of difficulty but mostly on tracks through bush. Pretty easy, but lost about 20s on one compass bearing (5-6 : possibly ran from the wrong knoll). Ended up in a bit of a race with Greg again after he lost plenty at No. 1.

Orienteering 42:48 [3] 5.0 km (8:34 / km)
shoes: Inov8 X-talon 212

Mt Lees. A normal course which was fairly easy after having been round most of the area already. Probably did about 4-5K with 250m climb. Didn't try too hard after realising that there wasn't really much training value, and was getting pretty tired in any case - not helped by lots of deep grass. Missed out a couple of controls at the end to try to conserve energy for more useful training tomorrow.

Followed by a short maze relay, which was a lot of fun.

Running 1:19:21 [3] 12.8 km (6:12 / km) +489m 5:12 / km
ahr:132 max:149 shoes: Nike Pegasus 30

Avian - Guilford Spur - Tapestry - Ecclesfield - Witako

A struggle pretty much the whole way. Legs feeling tired. Back a little sore at times, presumably due to all the ducking and weaving involved in Witako.

Running 46:33 [3] 8.0 km (5:49 / km)
ahr:133 max:153 shoes: Nike Pegasus 31

The Shorter Cannon Point Loop ACW (didn't quite have time for the longer descent). Including the trig point.

Tried to run at a decent tempo, but legs hurt as soon as I hit the first small climb. Improved after that though and was going OK later.

Back still a bit sore today, but no problem while running.

Running 1:51:28 [3] 20.0 km (5:34 / km) +874m 4:34 / km
ahr:140 max:156 shoes: Nike Air Pegasus 30 Blue

From Te Whiti Park up Te Whiti Riser and back along the ridge via Avro, but took the alternative route down into the valley behind the main ridge above Naenae.

Back was sore before running and for the first 5 minutes (left sacroiliac) but then improved and was fine. Was a lot better after running than it had been before. Right calf got sore towards the end though.

Felt good physically to start with, but suddenly a bit lacking in energy after the big climb back onto the ridge. Fairly warm day though - was trying to stick to the shade whenever possible.

Te Whiti Riser turned out to be a really nice track - not surprised they took a while to make it.
