Orienteering 27:38 [2] 3.0 km (9:13 / km)
shoes: VJ Falcon

At Scotts Ferry

Started off putting some tapes out for Yvette / Susan to get me to the start of the next bit. Back not a problem, but groin fairly sore. Didn't think I'd be able to do any proper training, but it got better towards the end of this and was able to ignore it when going faster later.

Orienteering 38:25 [4] 6.0 km (6:24 / km)
shoes: VJ Falcon

Repeated the O-intervals from a couple of weeks ago, but did the loops in reverse and modified the last one. Also treated it more as intended - run hard along track then dive straight off round a few controls, still pushing hard, then a couple of minutes (not timed) rest before the next one. Much better without the rain! Navigation fell apart a bit at one stage on the second one, losing probably 1.5 mins in total - too much hit and hope.
3 PM

Orienteering 41:38 [3] 6.0 km (6:56 / km)
shoes: VJ Falcon

Ran the first W21E middle distance course from ANZAC w/e last year (which I missed).

Wanted to run on a 1:10,000 map rather than 1:7,500. Found it a lot more difficult reading the detail (probably not helped by Yvette's routes on the map) and was a bit sloppy.

Felt awful for the first few controls - too soon after eating I think - but got a bit better, though still very hard work in the soft terrain. Not in good enough control technically. Had to keep stopping the watch at controls to check I was in the right place (and I wasn't quite on a couple of occasions).

Cricket 1:30:00 [1]

First day of 2-dayer v Onslow

Short of players so I thought I'd give it a go again despite the back having been worse the past few days. 54 overs of fielding was fairly agonising - painful whenever I had to get down to field anything. Both back and groin pretty sore by the end. One good catch, hit so hard that it was catch it or get badly hurt.

Didn't want to bat (and shouldn't have needed to), but had to go in eventually and struggled for about 10 overs over 4 runs (which was actually sort of what was needed at the time). Uncomfortable.

Won't play again until the back is feeling a lot better.

Cycling 57:59 [3] 25.31 km (2:17 / km)

The Whitemans Valley Loop CW.

Fairly strong NW wind - hard work until Wallaceville Hill, but good speed up the valley. Legs felt tired right from the start so didn't push too hard, but obviously got into as the time was pretty good given the conditions.

Running 50:32 [5] 8.0 km (6:19 / km)
ahr:130 max:158 shoes: Nike Pegasus 30

Hills. 2 x 4 x the usual hill. Possibly slightly further now with the new house at the top, and very wet again today so soft running in places.

First speed session since June, and it felt like hard work, particularly for the lungs. A few aches and pains but probably nothing too serious.

After suffering dehydration on Saturday, running in a helly today.

Running 43:08 [3] 8.0 km (5:24 / km)
ahr:136 max:155 shoes: Nike Pegasus 31

The shorter Cannon Point loop anticlockwise.

Yet again rain set in during the afternoon, so no cricket and had to squeeze a run in before collecting Larissa. Had wanted to do the longer loop, but got held up in traffic so had to just do the short version. No Wednesday cricket yet this year - shite weather every time.

Feeling fairly tired in general, but started reasonably hard and died a bit towards the top of the hill. Thigh seems pretty much recovered now. Back is still sore in general, but OK while running.

Garmin failed to record distance yet again. Don't seem to have ever got a proper reading for this loop. In any case, Garmin doesn't cope properly with the zigzag track.

Running race 19:22 [5] 5.0 km (3:52 / km)
ahr:159 max:165 shoes: Nike Pegasus 33

TMP 5K Race

Well, that hurt! Total lack of speed training in past few months was very obvious. Started at what I thought was the right pace, but it wasn't and I suffered - not used to running races where more people overtake me than I overtake. No real problems with thigh or back once the race started.

Highest genuine heart rate reading I think I've had since getting the Garmin. Also got a touch of the racing heart thing, but that was after finishing the warmdown, and was fairly brief.

Time to start with the hard work - need to get this time back down someone near the 18:21 I did on this course a few years ago.

Running 15:00 [2] 3.0 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: Nike Pegasus 33

Warm up / down. Ran with Larissa for the first few minutes of her race.

Running 23:09 [3] 4.68 km (4:57 / km)
ahr:132 max:153 shoes: Nike Air Pegasus 30 Blue

Convoluted loop of TMP including a bit up the riverbank to the North. Really just trying to assess the state I'm in.

Back has been pretty sore again, but was fine once I started running. Thigh wasn't too bad on the flat, but quite painful on even the small downhills on this route. Body is generally sore in various other areas as well, but felt OK once I got going. Noticeable that speed improved quite a lot over the course of the run - think it's taking me a bit to get going at the moment.
