Orienteering race 1:32:30 [3] 10.72 km (8:38 / km) +460m 7:06 / km
ahr:144 max:156 shoes: VJ Falcon

Auckland OY - Waioneke - 8.8Km

Not the sort of area to run on when you're tired, injured and it's hot!

Pretty much just jogged round, but probably couldn't have done much more as legs were fairly tired right from the start. In general not in as much pain as recently but that was partly down to running slowly and carefully. Still a bit sore most of the way though, and managed to tweak groin again fairly early on when my left foot went sharply down a sandy slope while contouring.

Technically mixed. One awful 3.5 min mistake at 5 where I just went up the wrong re-entrant from 4. Mostly hitting controls well, though wobbly at 2, 8 (just didn't see it), 12 and 17 (which was slightly wrong and cost me about a minute).

Orienteering 58:20 [3] 8.83 km (6:36 / km)
ahr:140 max:153 shoes: Inov8 X-talon 212

Running a course from a previous event.
Same soreness as usual, but nice terrain so able to run fairly confidently. Quite sore just afterwards. Mainly glute / upper hamstring.

Orienteering 24 [3] 3.5 km (7 / km)
shoes: Inov8 X-talon 212

Running through ultra-detailed dunes on a very blown up map. Fun, and easy at that scale. Could barely read that bit of map at 1:10,000 even with the glasses. Did the course both forwards and in reverse, and a bit harder the second time.
The time includes some running to and from the course.

Running 45:52 [5] 6.03 km (7:36 / km)
ahr:131 max:161 shoes: Nike Pegasus 31

Hills at Mangaroa. 2x4xthe usual Mangaroa hill.

As expected, a festival of pain. Injury-wise everything felt a bit dodgy beforehand but not as bad as feared once running. Glute sore at times, groin noticeable mostly on the downhills - couldn't stride out easily. Possibly pain being hidden by what felt like extreme stress on the lungs (even though I didn't feel I was going at any great speed).

Orienteering race 23:50 [4] 3.87 km (6:10 / km)
ahr:146 max:159

WOC Sprint - Karori Cemetery.

Long course for a sprint. Quite bitty - difficult to get a decent flow, partly because the map is not so easy to read.

Was not too bad yesterday but woke up with groin a bit sore this morning and it gradually got worse through the day. So was not in the best of states at the start although it seemed manageable on a short jog beforehand. Not too bad once I was running but glute / hamstring sore again and rather distracting me from the orienteering and never really felt I was racing.

Technically not too bad despite the lack of concentration. Lost 5 seconds taking the wrong path 6-7. Then lost time on 14 where the map in the vicinity of the control really wasn't up to it - a route through near-impenetrable white forest followed by a control on what was probably the wrong tree. Shouldn't have retraced my steps going 14-15 - the other route was quite a bit quicker, despite the map.

Running 41:51 [5] 9.71 km (4:19 / km)
ahr:140 max:158 shoes: Nike Pegasus 31

Intervals at TMP. Used the marked track again although it is now fading somewhat. Did a pyramid 400-800-1200-1600-1200-800-400 with rests being 30 sec x number of laps just completed.

Haven't felt so injured for the past day or two. A bit of discomfort warming up, and then a reasonable amount of pain during the efforts, mostly glute / upper hamstring. Didn't affect me too much although had a slow build up into each effort. Noticeably more painful on the faster intervals.

Would like to be doing some shorter sharper intervals, but think that would be too much of a risk at the moment.
