Sunday Jan 21 #

Note

Collected controls rather than doing the afternoon's exercise. Still worked up a major sweat just walking.
11 AM

Orienteering 33:50 [2] 3.0 km (11:17 / km)
(injured) shoes: VJ Falcon 2

On Hapua Wetlands. Verbalization exercise with Oli

Stiff and sore after yesterday and took a while to get going. A bit too easy though Oli made it more interesting by choosing the contouring route 11-12.
1 PM

Orienteering 32:30 [4] 5.0 km (6:30 / km)
shoes: VJ Falcon 2

O-intervals. This time with 500m at pace before starting.

Noticed on the run out on the first one that my right calf was sore. A bit worse on the run out on the second one. Then sore all the way on the third one. Decided not to do the last one (though was very tired by that stage). Very hard work in the heat.

Saturday Jan 20 #

1 PM

Orienteering 22:03 [3] 3.0 km (7:21 / km)
shoes: VJ Falcon 2

Wellington Training Weekend. In the Wairarapa. Temperature around 30 and fairly humid, so very hard work the whole time.

Started with a compass and pacing exercise with very small windows. All well and good, but the North lines were at least 5 degrees out (I checked) so no surprise that I felt I was doing badly while doing it and I kept missing controls to the left. Not easy on a 300m leg when only the control circle has detail in it!
2 PM

Orienteering 33:35 [3] 5.0 km (6:43 / km)
(injured) shoes: VJ Falcon 2

Route choice exercise with Kieran and Stefan in low hills (Riverside). Very unpleasant running as the ground had been chewed up by animals and then dried out.

Actually running OK but starting to get tired and thirsty towards the end. Put my right leg down a rabbit hole or similar at some point bending the knee backwards and straining the top of my right calf. Got running again fairly quickly and forgot about it, but see later...
3 PM

Orienteering 26:03 [4] 4.0 km (6:31 / km)
shoes: VJ Falcon 2

Series of O-intervals on Riverside. Struggled to get going, but fine once I had. Some interesting bits on the flat but some grunty climb as well.

Thursday Jan 18 #

Running 46:10 [3] 9.59 km (4:49 / km) +185m 4:23 / km
ahr:133 max:159 (injured) shoes: Nike Pegasus 33

With the Harriers. What they call "Reverse Lockwood" ? Up the river and down the other side then the main track through St Pats Forest and down Moonshine. Reasonable pace but some long waits. Feeling pretty good again.

Wednesday Jan 17 #

Running 26:05 [3] 3.77 km (6:55 / km) +145m 5:48 / km
ahr:122 max:140 (injured) shoes: Nike Pegasus 31

Maidstone Park - Kingsley Heights loop

Was supposed to be at nets, but started raining. Needed the exercise after a day spent at the computer so went for a jog before picking up Larissa. No problems.

Tuesday Jan 16 #

Running 1:02:49 [3] 10.88 km (5:46 / km) +425m 4:50 / km
ahr:132 max:152 shoes: Nike Pegasus 33

Avro - down the dead end track above Pinehaven - Avian

The track is getting gradually more overgrown. Didn't get too much further than the hairpin. Feeling quite good but again running conservatively in the warmth.

Monday Jan 15 #

Running 54:07 [3] 9.0 km (6:01 / km)
shoes: Nike Pegasus 33

Ran back from Silverstream via Tapestry, Water Tank, Avian.

Again conservative at the start because it was very humid, but was actually feeling pretty good.
