Orienteering race 41:13 [3] 5.0 km (8:15 / km)
(injured) (sick) shoes: VJ Falcon 2

SOW Day 3 - M40A - West Bay - 4.0Km

Not feeling great, but not quite as bad as yesterday. Went out steadily and concentrated on getting it right. Did so very effectively with 30s lost through hesitation en route to 18 and a couple of other very minor wobbles. In this terrain, that counts as a pretty good run. Certainly well ahead of all the W21Es and would have been comfortably second in M21E at that speed! Really enjoyed it.

Probably just as well the course was short as I felt really wasted afterwards, though the 30-degree heat obviously didn't help.

Orienteering race 1:04:42 [2] 7.0 km (9:15 / km)
(injured) (sick) shoes: VJ Falcon 2

SOW day 2 - Long - M40A - Teetotal Flat

Symptoms worsened overnight and was feeling pretty rotten this morning. Wouldn't have run if it hadn't been such a good area. Once I saw that the last 1.5Km of the course was brutal, and control 18 was close to the finish it was a pretty easy decision not to complete the course. As it was, after about 35 mins was in a fairly awful state and was jogging very slowly from then on and struggling to focus.

Technically fairly good, though lost about 2 mins at 12 which I thnk was a few metres out (which is all it takes in this terrain). Would have been OK from some directions, but not from my attack point.

Note
(injured) (sick)

Felt awful for the rest of the day as illness progressed into a full-blown cold.

Orienteering race 44:44 [3] 5.0 km (8:57 / km)
(injured) shoes: VJ Falcon 2

Southern Orienteering Week(end) day 1 - Tunnicliff Forest 3.1Km 180m

Very hot (about 30?) and humid. The heat and the area made it very energy sapping. Started very slowly to try to ensure calf stayed OK, but didn't speed up at all when it became obvious that it was not a problem.

Technically sound apart from the dodgy #4 which randomised the results. I lost about 5:30 and wouldn't have won if the Swede in 2nd hadn't lost over 10 minutes there!

Note
(injured) (sick)

Bit of a tickle in the throat after running. Gradually got worse as the afternoon / evening progressed. Think I could be in a bit of trouble here ...

Wednesday Jan 24, 2018 #

Note
(injured)

A couple of hours walking in Abel Tasman with the family. Calf sore constantly, but probably not as bad as yesterday and didn't get any worse as the day progressed.

Tuesday Jan 23, 2018 #

Note

Calf still quite sore, but doesn't feel like something that a bit of rest won't cure quite easily.

Monday Jan 22, 2018 #

Note
(injured)

Right calf too sore to risk - need to try to recover by next weekend. Walked round the controls in the slumped bit of Halcione.
