Orienteering race 14:12 [4] 3.0 km (4:44 / km)
shoes: Inov8 X-talon 212

LMS 3 - Pukekura Park.
Quite good twisty course mostly in a complex network of paths. Poor run though. Lost a few seconds on 6 where I didn't spot that it was on the inside corner of the fence. Then at 12 got very confused having misread light grey as light green. Big mistake though at 15 when I panicked half way through the leg thinking that my route crossed an uncrossable wall. So ran round and was then coming from an unexpected direction and ran off down the wrong track. About 30s lost, and the wall was actually crossable anyway.
Physically OK.

LMS 4
More just a running course this time, though a few route choices. Lost about 10s on 12 where I was too busy looking at the next leg and lost concentration. Also picked the wrong route to 10 - should have just taken the obvious boring route rather than gambling. Vary close race with Carsten - he just made a single 10s mistake and ended up 11s in front.
Again OK physically, but severe oxygen debt after the last climb!

LMS 1 : New Plymouth Girls High School.
Quite a fun sprint mostly round fairly random school buildings. Not completely in control and felt a bit rusty. Also felt sluggish and tired. Too early?
However the big issue was that between 6-7 one of the obvious routes was through the finish. Took that route and turned off the Air part of SI-Air in doing so. From then on, had to use the card as a normal SI card, which cost some time, but probably not as much as forgetting a few times and doing an air punch, leaving the control and then having to go back. Got rather annoying. Was about level with Carsten before that happened, but then 30 seconds down at the end.
Groin / heel both a bit sore beforehand, but seemed to cope.

LMS 2 : Napier Boys High + Cemetery
A lot of fun. Round the cemetery to start with and then the school, with some tricky route choices in the building. Very smooth through the cemetery, but probably a couple of dodgy routes in the school. Not much time lost except on 17 where the map wasn't really up to scratch and I probably ended up out of bounds to get through somewhere where a gap was shown (tricky because of multiple levels). Felt like I lost about 30 seconds there.
Felt better physically than this morning. Heel felt sore beforehand but again OK once I got going.

Lonely Mountain Sprints model race
Just a bunch of controls set out round a small school in New Plymouth. Fairly gentle jogging to loosen up after a long drive. Went round a couple of times to get up to a reasonable distance. Warm.

Sprint training today. First exercise was a corridor exercise which was surprisingly tricky. Made more so by the map being wrong between 2 & 3 which cost over a minute.
11 AM

Orienteering 19:37 [4] 4.5 km (4:22 / km)
shoes: Air Pegasus 30 Darker blue

Followed by 3 separate short courses (roughly 1, 1, 2Km) each with a butterfly or phi loop. Started each one with Carsten and then we did the loops in the opposite order to add a bit of pressure. Not running flat out, but keeping up a decent tempo. Navigation a bit rusty at times, but no problems beyond some small hesitations. Heels quite sore by the end.

Around a small school in Masterton. Fairly standard Sprint course with 3 maps. Took a while to get going - legs still and heels sore. No mistakes.
