Irish Long Distance Champs - Crohane Lake - M55
Very enjoyable course, nice and tricky, but rather too short.
Took it fairly steadily, trying to be efficient rather than fast through the terrain, partly because I was a bit distracted by Colm having tested positive for Covid just before we drove to the event and wasn't sure I should push too hard. Probably a good idea tactically as I was very smooth for the first few controls. Started to run into trouble from 6 onwards as the rain got a bit heavier and the glasses started steaming up. The last 2 controls in the open were just about OK but once I got into the forest I couldn't read the map and lost time both through stopping and mistakes.
Lost contact 5-6, maybe 30s loss through going slow and taking time to relocate. 30s at 10 where I overshot to the left, but not exactly a disaster. Then 1.5mins at 11 where I couldn't read the map and failed to get it right after I'd crossed the stream.
The least tired I remember feeling after running a "long" distance.
Not too surprised to still win as it wasn't easy and I got a lot right ...
