Classic Skiing 1:10:00 [2] 6.0 mi (11:40 / mi)

A slow loop with Jena (15 min), then over to Spruce Hole. Met the Tzukrov's with Oscar, chatted for a bit. Then on to a bit of an expedition to Troys field (awfully icy) and trails in the woods which were partially fabulous. Noticed ice skaters on the beaver pond behind the "pleasure" hut. The two day cold spell must have created the ice, it was smooth like a mirror. I would not have trusted the ice after just a few days of cold, while now it was 40 F. A good outing overall, with some limited tempo workouts. Skis: Waxless Atomics.

Classic Skiing 50:00 [2] 4.0 mi (12:30 / mi)

Mid-day skiing. Snowpack is fading ever so slightly in exposed areas. Overall tracks are still quite good. Ventured over to Spruce Hole area after one loop at Clyde's trails. Felt like spring skiing.

Road Running 21:00 [3] 2.7 mi (7:47 / mi)
shoes: New Balance Road

Run to work. First road run in a while. Went pretty fast to get warm (18 F)
4 PM

Road Running 20:30 [3] 2.7 mi (7:36 / mi) +50m 7:11 / mi
shoes: New Balance Road

Run home, at tempo. Needed to get home before dark.
5 PM

Classic Skiing 40:00 [2] 3.5 mi (11:26 / mi)

Then out for a round for 10 min with Jena, and then by myself. Solidified crust and icy tracks with more bare spots than yesterday, but harmless, most are just frozen vegetation showing through. Ridiculously fast: About 95% schussing and double-poling on my waxless skis. That was just a fine pace that felt like race-pace. Other skis would have been too fast and balancing in the dark would have been torture.

Classic Skiing 30:00 [2] 1.5 mi (20:00 / mi)

A leisurely evening ski with Nancy and J. on the now very crusty trails. I did a few back and forth "sprints" to warm up and to let the others catch up with me. Mostly double poling on the uphills for some training. Skating was also possible on the crust which is now holding up nicely, but unfortunately a bit too icy.

Classic Skiing 45:00 [3] 4.0 mi (11:15 / mi)

Midday ski, as usual Clyde's trails then over to Spruce Hole. Touching up tracks, and made a new track to EdenDale. In the woods: surface was soft (38F) yet compact made for nice glide anywhere, especially off track.
Waxless skis.

Snow Shoveling/Moving 55:00 [1]

Continue scraping and shoveling porch at 38F. Much easier after yesterday's prep work. Then Nancy and I tried the new Minneswota roof rake. Worked fine even with accumulated compacted blocks at the bottome of the roof. Only bad part was that due to our porch, I could not stand back far enough, so all the snow blocks were crashing on top of me.
I used a helmet and ski goggles, but next time I will add a 100% cover (rain coat with hood, rain pants). Solar panels are now free again - keep that green energy flowing.

Snow Shoveling/Moving 1:00:00 [1]

Rather: Hacking the ice off the porch, so that the sun worshippers can sip their Espresso without having to trudge through the ice, which had built up very badly in the nightly freezing mists we have been having. Rather frustrating endeavor: Had to destroy the albedo at straight lines, which then enabled me (a few minutes later) to chip away at the ice with a sharp garden shovel. Throwing the loose stuff over the railing was another story.
Not sure it is useful exercise; except it cultivates strength for further ice hacking. Not my favorite sport!

Classic Skiing 45:00 [2] 3.5 mi (12:51 / mi)

My now daily routine using my waxless worn-out Atomics. Tracks are frozen fast, just a hint of softness, 37F breezy. It is starting to feel like at a race. Fun to push hard on the double pole and kicking it on the inclines. After about 25 min went over to Spruce Hole. There the pedestrians have taken over except on my tracks through logging rides. But still room to ski just off-track which is easy (on classic skis) in these conditions. Feels like spring skiing.
2 PM

Classic Skiing 20:00 [2] 1.5 mi (13:20 / mi)

Then, after a quick lunch, catching up with Donna and Nancy and J on the Clyde's trails. Had to loop around in the maze a bit in order to find them. Had to stop and listen to overcome the crunching noise of my skis, but could not hear them, so just skied on a random route, and did not take long to find them.

Classic Skiing 15:00 [2] 1.0 mi (15:00 / mi)

Trying to encounter the right softness of the iced-over trails at 38 F. But by and large trails have already softened up. First try with Atomic rec. classic skis that worked so well the last few days. No kick. Then tried my Rossi Xium (my racing pair) which seemed to have a grey-silver klister on them. That did not work either. So bagged it after 15 min's and decided to try skate skiing.

Skate Skiing 30:00 [2] 3.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

On the fields and trails of Troy/Adam. That was better but snow conditions were variable from fair to annoying. The changing softness caused some stress trying to avoid catching the tips. Slightly more enjoyable on the trails with more uniform snow firmness. So decided to loop around in the woods and back through the field. My back felt strained. A half hour was enough. Skis: Atomic RS 9.
12 PM

Classic Skiing 20:00 [2] 2.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

Needed to loosen up after the rough skate so resorted to the waxless Atomics to do a loop on Clyde's trails. Surprisingly this was very enjoyable. What a difference a little bit of kick makes!
