Skate Skiing 57:55 [3] 7.9 mi (7:20 / mi) +300m 6:33 / mi
shoes: Rossi Xium Skate

Early ski in Jackson. This was meant to be somewhat a "dress rehearsal" for Rangeley. I got what I wanted, but broke it up into three segments with breaks, just to keep the whole bit on the humane side. Looked like I was the 2nd skater on the freshly groomed trails. Parked at beginning of Hall Tr, then went up and back, then down to Ellis, and out to picnic table (end of grooming) and back and up to the car. I felt a bit sluggish in the beginning. Too early in the morning? (Had to leave home at 6:30 am)
11 AM

Skate Skiing 1:39:22 [3] 12.7 mi (7:49 / mi) +470m 7:01 / mi
shoes: Rossi Xium Skate

Then over to Prospect Farm (Carter Notch Road). Out the Boggy Br Tr and back, then up the Wildcat Valley Tr, out and back the Orchard, then up Hubs Loop (very hard) to top, then to Halls Ledge outlook and back down , finally out and back on Quail to Dana Place Tr., and back down to parking for a quick lunch. Temps seem to rise a bit, and skis to slow down accordingly. Downhills were thrilling incl. a scary point at the Hubs (B Hendricks) Loop at the very top that had chopped up ice pieces. Afterwards I skied in a controlled manner doing lots of "wedel" turns.
1 PM

Skate Skiing 1:11:10 [3] 9.46 mi (7:31 / mi) +240m 6:58 / mi
shoes: Atomic Skate RS9

Switched to Atomics (with Salomon bindings) and had to use my lower end boots, which were mushy, so a solid V2 with a lot of pushing was compromised due to reduced balance. Although after a while a got the hang of it. Met a gang of friends from the Valley, Ken L whom I skied with for several miles, the Armstrongs, Ken K, and others. Also saw 3 CSU junior women in the CSU colors, actually they turned out to be in Alex's crew. Fun to be out with company. The last return from the Dana Pl Tr was exhausting with sunny inclines having turned to mush at 40F and with no wind.

Trail running 45:00 [2] 3.0 mi (15:00 / mi)
shoes: New Balance MT 101

Joggeroo around Spruce Hole. Did not really have any ambition to train hard, so I ended up clearing trails. Skiing in the last two months has helped identifying the logging rides with minimal undergrowth, and so I followed the previous ski paths and cleared some downfall along the way. I hope to keep these passages runnable and skiable in the future, and I have started mapping them.

Trail running 55:00 [2] 5.0 mi (11:00 / mi)
shoes: New Balance MT 101

Running in two parts 1( w. Jena), 2(alone) around Spruce Hole. 28F Windy, cold. Only very few snow/ice patches left and they are quite runnable. Woods have dried up nicely. Just so much more fun running in the woods than along the road.

Classic Skiing 13:00 [2] 1.0 mi (13:00 / mi)
shoes: Atomic NX Waxless

Pre-breakfast loop with Jena around Clyde's. Best conditions for a while with 1 inch of snow/sleet mix.

Classic Skiing 45:00 [3] 4.0 mi (11:15 / mi)
shoes: Atomic NX Waxless

Then over to Spruce Hole. Really just grabbing the opportunity. About 25% of terrain did not have snow previously but the new 1 inch snow/sleet was enough and perfect! to cruise over it. The rest had old pack, bumpy in places but mostly fast. I just chose the best line to ski over. Very fast, good double pole workout in about half the places. Too bad that It will mostly be gone by tomorrow.

Road Running 1:06:00 [2] 7.77 mi (8:30 / mi) +60m 8:18 / mi
shoes: New Balance MT 101

While spending a couple of days on York Beach, ME, I went for a loop on the roads, with a short detour onto the low-tide sand (0.5 miles). My expectation was about 7 miles in an hour, which was pretty close. I did the loop from motel N on 1A to Ridge Road to Long Sands Rd to the monument, and back on 1A, with a couple of ventures into side street, just for curiosity's sake. Ended up as 7.77 miles as per Garmin. Started at a 9 mile pace and slowly settled into a 8:15 ish pace. Whenever possible I tried to drift over to soft ground on shoulders and front yards giving my back and my more or less dormant running muscles (except those that have gained strength through skiing) a break from the pavement pounding. Gloriously bright day - blinding almost along the beach; 35F.
