My first time O-training in Sweden. Ross suggested that I get the Uppsala hittaut map at the tourist office, which I did. N and I took the bus to Sunnersta from where I ran over to Lunsen, while N hiked along the shore of the lake. I visited permanent controls 8,6,5,4,7,9,10. I moved quite slowly at first to get the feel for the map. There were indistinct unmapped paths everywhere between the marshes and blueberry undergrowth and the trick was to use them to your advantage, while at the same time trying to stay in contact with the map. Conditions were great (speak: very dry) although on the hotter side (75 F). Saw an older couple hiking swiftly with a map. Also nearly trampled on a big snake that was trying to catch some rays on a flat rock. Nice complex area, full of marshes and small rock and contour detail. The map is excellent.

Leading and following N on her bike from the hotel to Gamlar Uppsala. Temperatures had dropped to 65F over lunch time and a brisk N wind blow in our faces.

Then I biked back to town and took a loop up through the historical area of the university (N took the bus). U is quite the bike capital! I found that other bicyclists pose more of a danger than the cars especially during (bike) rush hour!

Last jog around Sodermalm. Somewhere between road and trail running. Ran the trails of Langholmen (which are mostly dirt roads) taking as many ups and downs as I could hitting every hill on the island which took about 30 minutes. Then over to the Hogalids Kyrkan and back to the hotel at Reimersholms. Lovely morning, cool, bright and sunny.
On to Uppsala for the last 3 days of the trip!

Arrived in Uppsala mid-day. Jogging S along the Fyrison river on bikepath and back, alongside N who was pedaling on a rented bike. Nice day. Hundreds of people out on bikes. Had to be careful to avoid collisions. A good way to get some mileage in.

Another round around the island. Started S , then along the "strand", and back up through the garden houses and back to hotel. Overcast, but warmer. Quite a few joggers around on the strand weg.
