Classic Skiing 1:15:00 [2] 4.0 mi (18:45 / mi)
shoes: Karhu BC Tele Skis

The 2-inch storm covered up the icy mess nicely. I ventured out for a late night "tracking" with my BC tele skis. Nice powdery snow, quiet gliding, serene diffuse moonlight. That should make for nice conditions until the next rain (which I believe will be in 2 - 3 days after a deep freeze - the winter roller coaster shall continue....

Classic Skiing 1:00:00 [2] 3.5 mi (17:09 / mi)
shoes: Karhu BC Tele Skis

Skiing on crust. Stopped a few times to remove branches that have either emerged due to snow reduction or were fresh fall from recent winds. The water line road was littered from the adjacent birch saplings, those that had lost their leaves in mid September due to the drought. They must be brittle. Skiing was only moderately enjoyable due to frozen skinny tracks in places and lack of good cover. However the 1/2 inch of fluff we got overnight and ideal temps (26) for waxing saved the day. My urge to go up north is growing...

Classic Skiing 1:00:00 [2] 4.5 mi (13:20 / mi)
shoes: Atomic NX Waxless

Skiing on the "ice". Moderately annoying: My tracks from yesterday were frozen in, so now my boots were scraping against the side. But most other tracks were fine, i.e. solidly frozen. Ok nevertheless, managed to get my hour in.

Classic Skiing 25:00 [2] 1.4 mi (17:51 / mi)
shoes: Atomic NX Waxless

Skiing in the slush. Was waiting for colder temps, but they were still around 40, so just went. (w. J around Spruce Hole)

8 AM

Classic Skiing 30:00 [2] 1.8 mi (16:40 / mi)
shoes: Atomic NX Waxless

Morning ski with J. out to Mill Rd intersect. then around Spr Hole. Easy touring and some trail cleaning.
4 PM

Classic Skiing 20:00 [2] 1.2 mi (16:40 / mi)

Again w. Jena over at Clyde's trails.
5 PM

Classic Skiing 48:00 [3] 3.8 mi (12:38 / mi) +40m 12:14 / mi
shoes: Atomic NX Waxless

Then out again at Spruce Hole. Exploring various combinations of trails segments to avoid the "usual" sequence; including down to field and back. All continuous movement with intermittent double poling. A real work-out this time.

9 AM

Classic Skiing 25:00 [2] 1.3 mi (19:14 / mi)
shoes: Karhu BC Tele Skis

Morning loop with Jena on C trails, made some new tracks where there were none. Abrasive snow and my wax was waning.
10 AM

Classic Skiing 45:00 [2] 3.5 mi (12:51 / mi)
shoes: Atomic Cross Cap

Then tested the Atomic Cross Cap (I won these over 10 years ago at Rangeley), using VR60; looped around Spruce Hole. Definitely faster with the waxables, but kick is fading in the abrasive snow. Thanks for only small hills. Met a neighbor with 2 dogs (D), and a lady from Newmarket with dog (small poodle like dog that really wanted to follow me).
2 PM

Snow Shoveling/Moving 30:00 [2]

Actually, ice hacking/scraping, which is worse than shoveling and gets my shoulders sore, but it does feel like upper body training a bit.
4 PM

Classic Skiing 50:00 [2] 3.8 mi (13:09 / mi)
shoes: Atomic NX Waxless

Then out with N&J for an afternoon loop at Spruce Hole. We laid another track on the right side on the access road. Nice soft and deep snow here (7 inches?) due to right aspect and a line of large pine trees on the S side, far away so not inhibiting the snow, also well drained so there was no standing water underneath compared to other places. Quite the uneven snow cover this year! (20 minutes), then cruised for another 30 minutes before dark.
