Classic Skiing 25:00 [2] 1.2 mi (20:50 / mi)
shoes: Atomic NX Waxless

After a night of snowing, we received about 5 inches of the heavy wet stuff. Temps steady at 31 F. So I decided to venture out before meltdown. Conditions were great for track setting. Very wet already transformed snow, good gliding conditions. Did a loop around Clyde's trails. Many trees bent over the trails, but a gentle knock with a pole freed most of them from their burden.

Snow Shoveling/Moving 45:00 [1]

Shoveling the usual, this time with the shovel. Basically moving blocks of snow. Even cleaning out the cars was done with the shovel, by removing snow blocks from the top to the side. Pretty efficient.

Classic Skiing 50:00 [2] 2.6 mi (19:14 / mi)
shoes: Atomic NX Waxless

Out for another ski. Got another 3 inches of snow, but now with a lot of melting setting in as temps climbed to 33F. Noticed water collecting underneath the snow as I was following my earlier tracks. This is going to melt fast!. Well, it is April after all. Also glide was not as good as this morning: uneven, with the intermittent break through, and more water suction. Tried to push hard with the legs, to simulate running training as best as I could. Takes motivation.

Road Running 53:44 [3] 7.0 mi (7:41 / mi) +150m 7:12 / mi
shoes: New Balance MT 101 sz 9

Run to work with a nice detour to Packers Falls, Bennet Road, to Cutts Road, then a slight detour to a cul-de-sac, then to Campus via Faculty Drive. Exactly 7 miles to the stairs of Kingsbury. Ha!
6 PM

Road Running 19:04 [3] 2.44 mi (7:49 / mi) +40m 7:26 / mi
shoes: New Balance MT 101 sz 9

Running Home, via Dam connector which had a lot of snow on the steep uphill.

Road Running (Tempo-Hills) 52:40 [3] 6.15 mi (8:34 / mi) +160m 7:55 / mi
shoes: New Balance MT 101

Evening run to Wednesday Hill. Did 3 hill climbs at tempo (back side of WH up Sledding lane to top) with recovery back down and around the adjacent lane. Max HR was at about 165 on the last one. Haven't measured this in a long time. Afterwards easy run home, with a bit of tempo on the last mile (7:30). This felt good, but I still feel I am about 1/2 min / mile slower than last year at this time.

Road Running 38:15 [3] 5.0 mi (7:39 / mi) +40m 7:28 / mi
shoes: New Balance MT 101 sz 9

Run to work via Garrity Rd, Rt 4 , West Main Street, Stadium to Gregg Hall and around Kingsbury - adds up to just about 5 miles. Fairly swift pace to gauge what 1/2 marathon race pace might be feasible. Shooting for 7 / min.
5 PM

Trail running 42:26 [3] 3.79 mi (11:12 / mi) +100m 10:21 / mi
shoes: New Balance MT 101 sz 9

Running home via CW. Light rain 35 F. Trails were slippery, hard-packed "soft ice". So decided to veer off into snow-land (off trail) which was better, but slower, and made for a much more vigorous work-out. About 1-2 inches of sinking in throughout. After the bridge, I followed the usual trail, now much less packed and icy. Added an extra loop via access road (still has ~ 5 inches of snow, and I sank through nearly all of it - bad idea.) Then the last 0.8 mile on the road.

Skate Skiing 43:45 [3] 5.15 mi (8:30 / mi) +80m 8:06 / mi
shoes: Rossi Xium Skate

"field sampling". Field #1: Jenkins Rd / Wednesday Hill Rd. Solid snow cover. Temps around 39F, Just a tad too warm, but still a hint of frozen surface along the tree lined edge. Looped around. 17 min, 2.2 miles
Field #2: By Highland house farm. 1 big loop (3 miles) with little repetition loops added , also foray into the woods on snow mobile trail. All was skateable. Variable conditions as in field 1, but it was predictable. A good workout and very pleasant. Cloud cover just came in so everything held up nicely.
5 PM

Trail running 58:35 [3] 5.1 mi (11:29 / mi) +50m 11:09 / mi
shoes: New Balance MT 101

Snow running the first half, on road shoulder (soft) on the return. I tested my run to work. Still fairly deep snow (1 - 6 inches), made my own tracks for the first mile, then followed established foot tracks thereafter. First mile was at 16 minutes, then it got faster. Fortunately there was no ice (35 F), just a steady but controllable slipping and sliding. Back via foot bridge to Mill Road, and home from there.
Note: I tested my brandnew Garmin Forerunner 230 GPS watch. Seems to work fine - still need to master all the possible push button sequences and menu options.
