Orienteering race 39:03 [3] ** 3.55 mi (11:00 / mi) +35m 10:40 / mi
spiked:10/14c shoes: On Cloudflow dark grey

O-event organized by Deb. Green Course. At Urban Forestry Center in Portsmouth. Good turnout, given that the season's first snowstorm just started around noon. Fun event, a "long sprint" - the area is easy for navigation with lots of trails, fields, salt marshes etc. About an 80 s mistake at 1 - simply started out too fast, got startled by the wood staging area , went around on road instead of using the direct route through the strip of forest - I did not expect the map to be accurate around here. The remainder was fine, a couple places where I thought the controls were inaccurate, but it turned out the map was not quite accurate.
Fun event with quite some competition on Green. I won it but 4 others following within 5 minutes behind. (Alar, runner fr Portsmouth, Mason, J.J.)

Orienteering race 1:03:09 [3] *** 4.0 mi (15:47 / mi) +220m 13:29 / mi
spiked:12/16c shoes: Icebug

Beaver Brook UNO event. 5.3 km straight line distance. After several years of not mastering this map and terrain, I decided to from the get go, to read the contours very carefully even if it meant to slow down more than I am used to. And it worked.
Lost at 1 (misplaced a bit, required stomping through slash), 3 (dropped down early all the way too the trail - would have been too steep otherwise);
lost 1 minute to Alar on 8, due to hesitation and locating the linear reentrants to have a firm attackpoint; bad route choice going N around the trail all the way to stonewall and not seeing a shortcut through rough open area (lost at least 1 minute). The only real bobble was 16, did not see the control from below at the stream, and did not know where I was - I should have seen the water channel, stream junction, but it was the last control which often correlates with sloppiness.

Fun event! J.J, Alar and I finished within 1 minute of each other. Good rivalry and detailed post race analysis of course, over yummy chili and baked goodies. Thanks to the organizers (Fay, Bundschuhs, Ruutopolds, ...)
