Beaver Brook UNO event. 5.3 km straight line distance. After several years of not mastering this map and terrain, I decided to from the get go, to read the contours very carefully even if it meant to slow down more than I am used to. And it worked.
Lost at 1 (misplaced a bit, required stomping through slash), 3 (dropped down early all the way too the trail - would have been too steep otherwise);
lost 1 minute to Alar on 8, due to hesitation and locating the linear reentrants to have a firm attackpoint; bad route choice going N around the trail all the way to stonewall and not seeing a shortcut through rough open area (lost at least 1 minute). The only real bobble was 16, did not see the control from below at the stream, and did not know where I was - I should have seen the water channel, stream junction, but it was the last control which often correlates with sloppiness.
Fun event! J.J, Alar and I finished within 1 minute of each other. Good rivalry and detailed post race analysis of course, over yummy chili and baked goodies. Thanks to the organizers (Fay, Bundschuhs, Ruutopolds, ...)
