Classic Skiing 1:07:03 [2] 4.21 mi (15:56 / mi) +55m 15:18 / mi
shoes: Atomic Cross Cap

Around Spruce Hole. More track cutting including through new logging area W of dividing brook. Now over 5 miles of tracks. Ready to organize the Ultimate Middle Distance Classic Ski-O Adventure Race. (UMDCSOAR) Tentative for Sunday.

Classic Skiing 1:04:50 [2] 4.73 mi (13:42 / mi) +75m 13:04 / mi
shoes: Atomic Cross Cap

Full moon skiing. Around the Hole. Fabulously clear night, never even turned on my headlamp. Absolutely still. Temperature steady at 8 F. After the first mile I had no sense of being cold. Just 100% comfortable. What could be better.

Skate Skiing 1:14:04 [2] 6.96 mi (10:39 / mi) +100m 10:11 / mi
shoes: Fisher Revolutions

Out again at Linden Farm for Skate skiing. Just as I got my skis out of the car, Jamie came walking from the river side, so we joined going west again on LittleJohn area. He split near Wiswall Rd going home, and I explored the powerline connector which was a bad idea - rough trail - obstacle skiing for the most part. Once back on the wider trail, I did the out and back again as yesterday. Much better with the Revolutions. Trails feel more hard-packed as compared to yesterday. Still cold about 8 F. Polar Vortex continues....
3 PM

Classic Skiing 50:00 [2] 3.01 mi (16:37 / mi) +15m 16:22 / mi
shoes: Atomic Cross Cap

Then out on Clyde's trail with Nancy for 1 loop, then back to visit C&W bringing the mortgage and wishing a HNY, but unfortunately both were sick on the couches.

Skate Skiing 32:08 [2] 2.81 mi (11:26 / mi) +35m 11:01 / mi
shoes: Atomic Skate RS9

I went to the Boat Club first, but no sign of grooming. So had a hunch that perhaps the snow-mobilers would have done some grooming, so took a look at Linden Farm. And yes they did, actually one person had done a superb job. I followed what seem to be an out and back that ended up beyond Follet's brook, and reached the end where there was a brand-new looking snow mobile with a 3-foot wide 8 foot long metal contraption. Great! Narrow in places in the woods and some rock humps showing through, but I know the trails very well, so was cautious. Otherwise powdery snow, so easy to turn on the breaks. Ran into Jamie on the way back, had a quick conversation, too cold to stop moving for too long.

While trying to stop my skis from sliding off the side of the car in the parking area, my legs slipped under me on the ice and I crash landed on my buttock. Ouch. It did hurt, and I was hoping that it would not develop into a lasting injury.
3 PM

Classic Skiing 48:51 [2] 3.75 mi (13:02 / mi) +45m 12:34 / mi
shoes: Atomic Cross Cap

And out again looping around Spruce Hole. Added a few more new tracks between P F Road and Electric Avenue N of the house. My buttock felt more or less ok. Hope I am not aggravating it.

Classic Skiing 45:27 [2] 3.66 mi (12:25 / mi) +60m 11:49 / mi
shoes: Atomic Cross Cap

Worked most of the day, so really had to go out before dark. I tried to hit as much of the trail system of Spruce Hole without doubling any trail segments. I did not do the far N loop and left out a few connectors that I could not logically include in my route. My estimate is that there is now between 4.3 to 4.5 miles of tracks out there. Not bad! All in good shape where it not for the leaves...
Cloudy, still, 10F. Snow feels very powdery and faster than yesterday.

Classic Skiing 48:54 [2] 4.02 mi (12:10 / mi) +75m 11:30 / mi
shoes: Atomic Cross Cap

Looping around Spruce Hole, including the far N loop through the new clear cut. Very cold and windy in the open, plus packed snow with drifts, which did not make for easy skiing. Woods were fabulous though. Single digits temps.
3 PM

Classic Skiing 42:30 [2] 2.35 mi (18:05 / mi) +30m 17:24 / mi
shoes: Atomic Cross Cap

And out again, after a quick chat, and warm-up drink, plus switch to Nancy's puffy mittens which my fold fingers needed. I blazed an out and back trail connector to the SprWood generator building, then some more looping around. Feet got cold from trail blazing (wet socks!).

Classic Skiing 25:00 [2] 1.3 mi (19:14 / mi) +15m 18:34 / mi
shoes: Karhu BC Tele Skis

Out the door into the frigid cold - 4 F and the winds have picked up mid morning. Looped around Clyde's trails - Nancy had gone ahead. Followed her tracks then blazed some more as neighbors had previously only skied on a single loop.
1 PM

Classic Skiing 43:30 [2] 3.0 mi (14:30 / mi) +50m 13:47 / mi
shoes: Atomic Cross Cap

Tired of shuffling around in the heavy tele skis, I switched to my old training boards and ventured to Spruce Hole - now it feels like real skiing! Too bad that all the falling leaves have been collecting in my tracks - they are a drag in the true sense of the word. But otherwise all was quite enjoyable - nobody around on a workday in such temperatures. Nancy had given me her puffy mittens, so my fingers were cozy for a change.

Classic Skiing 46:00 [2] 3.07 mi (14:59 / mi) +65m 14:03 / mi
shoes: Karhu BC Tele Skis

A pre-lunch outing between baby-sitting. On tele skis. Solidifying trail to Spruce Wood, then out to VW field, trail blazing on the new clearcut, then back teleturning to stream crossing then back up and home. Perfect conditions - unbelievable how easy it is to trailblaze with the ice crust underneath and nice cold temps - used old green kickwax.
2 PM

Snow Shoveling/Moving 30 [1]

More roof scraping. It turns out that the PVC's and the hot water collectors all have a thin hardpacked layer, that does not seem to come lose on its own. Was able to clear the hot water panels with considerable effort and the old rake that kept being stuck as I lost the lose fitting extension. O hack. Had enough of it and.....
4 PM

Telemark Skiing 1:05:00 [2] 3.81 mi (17:04 / mi) +80m 16:01 / mi
shoes: Karhu BC Tele Skis

Went tele skiing with shorter poles. First up and down Troy's field. Carved the hill several time as it turned to a red glow in the sunset. Darn, I did not bring the camera (smartphone) as I don't like to fiddle with it in the cold. Then back home exchanging poles and off again across the street. Consolidating earlier tracks, and more bushwacking/trail blazing. I couldn't help trying the Solar field steeps for a few tele turns, but it ended up being challenging with the larger poles, and the very thin layer of snow on top of the previous ice event. A little more training would help as well. Then over the ridge and the connector to field - all in superb condition for laying tracks.
