Classic Skiing race 2:36:30 [4] 20.1 mi (7:47 / mi) +480m 7:15 / mi
shoes: Rossi Xium Classic

Craftsbury Marathon, the 33k version. Ended jup just about in the middle (6th) of my age class which is very competitive. Also just in the middle overall in the Men 33k. Reasonable for me given that this was the first time I did classic skiing in tracks with waxed skis this season. Had to relearn the "trade" which I managed to do in the first 10 - 12 k. Fantastic conditions (8 - 15 F), powder snow but very firm tracks. Wide trails and even some good vistas.

XC Skiing 37:18 [2] 2.55 mi (14:38 / mi) +25m 14:12 / mi
shoes: Karhu BC Tele Skis

Ski to work. Cold (~ 5 F) so limited glide. I had cleaned the old sticker off the Tele skis and waxed Polar and Green over a small wax pocket. Kick was good. Beautiful bright morning. Only a light wind. I was wearing my layers, so I was comfy. Very enjoyable, even some good tele turns on the short downhills.

XC Skiing 58:31 [2] 3.8 mi (15:24 / mi) +70m 14:34 / mi
shoes: Karhu BC Tele Skis

Skiing home. 10 degrees warmer made a big difference in glide. Conditions are excellent and the tracks are getting better, although the snow depth is minimal - I could feel gravely and woodsy soil with my poles, but no bare spots. The next warm spell (next week) will do a job again! Grrr. I did an extra loop above the hole down the field on my own back-woodsy track. Fun!

Note

Last minute decision to do the Craftsbury Marathon weekend. Just signed up. Hope to find some lodging.

Snow Shoveling/Moving 30:00 [1]

"Brooming" the cars to free the snow off. Very light and fluffy. An easy snow dealing. I measured 7 inches.
5 PM

XC Skiing 1:27:25 [2] 5.1 mi (17:08 / mi) +85m 16:18 / mi
shoes: Karhu BC Tele Skis

Trying out the new snow. 7 inches. Powdery and fluffy. Had some old klister on the Tele skis, which I covered up with some kick wax du jour. Kick was good, but glide was marginal. So it as slow going, about 60% in existing tracks, 40% track making, which was not too hard with this snow. Around the hole and halfway towards work, which was tracked and was good skiing. Enough cover, no rocks. Beautiful out (22 F when I returned).

Road Running 1:16:08 intensity: (1:06:08 @3) + (10:00 @4) 10.2 mi (7:28 / mi) +240m 6:57 / mi
shoes: On Cloud grey-black

A hilly run over Wednesday Hill to Lee without a specific aim. Plan was either to do some hill intervals on the way back, or not, depending on my energy, or whether I would get too hungry. Energy was good so I added an out and back from Lee to the Lamprey on Lee Hook R. , then I did 5 hill intervals on Wednesday Hill: Radford to Sledding Hill Rd, back and forth. About 30m climb each, 0.6 mile each. Then home, "spiking" the last mile at 6:49 (12 m elev. loss). Good workout. Total climb about twice that of Boston.
