4 PM

Road Running 1:32:53 [4] 13.1 mi (7:05 / mi) +190m 6:47 / mi
shoes: On Cloud light gray

Long run at race pace on the uphills, slight-relax on the downs and flats. As usual the last third was tough on the hills, but I seem to have quick recoveries afterwards. Good workout. Calves are sore for the first time in a long time. I wonder why...
Wiswall to Lee Hook to Lee to Stepping Stone Rd to Sheep Rd to Snell Rd and home via Garrity. I was at 13.03 miles at our driveway, so I topped it off to a half marathon with a short out and return. Nice day, temps at 36 falling to 33. Light breeze, colorful sunset.

XC Skiing 1:08:00 [2] 3.93 mi (17:18 / mi) +55m 16:35 / mi
shoes: Karhu BC Tele Skis

I had a burst of energy after a fantastic concert at Kittery Dance Hall. On the drive home I noticed temps to be above freezing (34), so recognized my chance of being able to lay tracks without too much frustration. I slapped a thin layer of purple klister on a short wax pocket onto my tele skis (which gave me about 20minutes of kick), and out I went. Not too ambitiously, 1.5 - 2 miles of shallow tracks (.5 - 1 inch deep mostly). We'll see if/how they last. Weather forecast is stable for the next 1 to 2 weeks, so just want to be able to do short classical workouts after my run to work. It is the February thing to do.

5 PM

Classic Skiing 40:00 [2] 2.91 mi (13:45 / mi) +30m 13:19 / mi
shoes: Fisher Nordic Cruising 164

Tried the around the hole. It was bad! Icy crust with a dusting on top. Regular sinking in but not enough to have any control. Was hoping for more stability. Eventually I sought the existing ski tracks from yesterday?, which had lots of hikers' postholes, but at least provided some stability. Fast in the tracks, double poling with not much workout.

9 AM

Road Running 19:45 [3] 2.67 mi (7:24 / mi) +20m 7:14 / mi
shoes: On Cloud grey-black

Run to work. Messy slush here and there, but tire tracks were clear, and nothing seemed really slippery. Did not get splashed at all, mostly private snow-plowers on the road who seemed to have no problem avoiding me with a wide turn.
5 PM

Road Running 50:05 [3] 6.79 mi (7:23 / mi) +60m 7:11 / mi
shoes: On Cloud grey-black

Running home via W Main to Lee 5 corners to Garrity, then PF's Rd but adding the Jenkins and Wedn. Hill loop, back via Griffiths. I needed that.

Tuesday Feb 12 #

11 AM

Road Running 19:30 [3] 2.4 mi (8:08 / mi) +15m 7:58 / mi
shoes: On Cloudflow dark grey

Run to work. Tried the river shortcut, but it was atrociously icy in places. Not much gained.
5 PM

Road Running 28:00 [3] 3.1 mi (9:02 / mi) +40m 8:41 / mi
shoes: On Cloudflow dark grey

Running home with 1/2 inch of new cold snow on the road. Running was geat except for a few now invisible icy patches on the shortcut approach, which almost got me in a dangerous spin... Add a little bit a the end to top it off at 3.0.

5 PM

Road Running 20:00 [3] 2.66 mi (7:31 / mi) +40m 7:11 / mi
