58 F ! yeah shorts and short sleeves! A training run: 2 miles relaxed, then upping the pace to MP (miles 3 - 8), then cool down. The Lee loop: cc-wise with the Surrey loop added at the end.

Road Running 1:09:18 [3] 8.46 mi (8:11 / mi) +320m 7:20 / mi

Early run over to Sugar Hill up the very steep Lafayette Rd, then EastonRoad to Toad Hill Rd and back to the Inn. A bit slower running as there was a dusting of wet snow on sections of the roads. Nice quiet run occasionally disturbed by very few cars and a couple screeching Pileated Woodpeckers. Gorgeous views of the Lafayette ridge with morning glow behind it until it eventually disappeared in the clouds.

Then out skating by myself. It is warming up to 40F in the open areas. The newly groomed sections were soft and slooooow. Hard work. Deeper in the woods it was a tad cooler, and 1 day old groomed sections had a hint of icing with actually worked better. But still most of it was too difficult to V2. I skied the village loop and ventured over the river to the rarely groomed loops on the E side. Then back to the center for soup.

I rushed to go out for a skate ski right after breakfast, trying to avoid the warming up. That was a good idea, since conditions were fast with a dusting of cold fresh snow on top of the snow pack. I was able to V2 even on uphills and flats of course. Fields were sweet as they had been smoothed out by windy snow storms before. A bit of softening towards the end. Crust cruising at its best.

Classic Skiing 1:20:00 [1] 3.55 mi (22:32 / mi) +30m 21:58 / mi

Then shuffling around on the flats and bit up the Ham Branch w, N. Warming up and overall just nice to be out there.

Road Running 1:06:15 [3] 8.02 mi (8:16 / mi) +350m 7:16 / mi

Pre-breakfast run from the Inn to Cannon Mt Ski lodge turnoff. An out and back 4 miles one way. Last 2 miles are all steady uphill about 300m climb. A good workout in cold temps (20) with light snow. I ran in the plowed car tracks, but had to leap to the side for the occasional car. So I needed to slow down a bit on the steepest downhill parts to be ready for it. The snow was cold and sticky, so not really a problem. Smoked salmon eggs benny afterwards. Yummy!

Classic Skiing 45:00 [1] 1.68 mi (26:47 / mi) +5m 26:32 / mi
shoes: Fisher Waxless Nordic Cr 164

Out on the river side trails with Nancy. Playing around and picking up branches and debris from the storm 10 days ago. Apparently the most recent storm did not reach this part of the White Mountains. Conditions were good though with 1 inch of fluff from last night on top of a hard-pack base - no slippery ice to speak off.
2 PM

Classic Skiing 1:22:00 [2] 5.75 mi (14:16 / mi) +55m 13:51 / mi
shoes: Rossi Xium Classic

A gentle afternoon ski - stopped frequently to clear fallen twigs and branches off the trail. Nice glide except in some sun exposed open areas, where it started to slow down with a hint of wanting to stick, but not really, fortunately. Out on the ham branch trail to the Wells Rd crossing, and back.

"Around the block" with forays into Surrey and Toon development. Then short out and back to Farm Stand and W Hill, then turned around to loop back home. Just to loosen up before trip north.

Skate Skiing 1:02:00 [3] 7.28 mi (8:31 / mi) +250m 7:42 / mi

At Waterville Valley. Superb conditions at about 35 F, with fresh corduroy and few people out (I saw 3). Fast packed powder, a hint of sugariness at the lower elevs. I cruised around on most of the northerly trails, but did not do the criterion.

Skiing in the snowstorm. It came down hard for a while. 30F and snow wanted to stick unless I kept moving. So I kept moving. Slower than yesterday, but fun. One skier had been out to the access road and back, and then quit (concluding from the tracks); perhaps he had sticky issues. (Was it Wally perhaps?). Nice way to loosen up heavy legs from yesterday's run.
