Ski-O race 1:03:54 [3] 4.0 mi (15:59 / mi) +150m 14:19 / mi
shoes: Fisher Waxless Nordic Cr 164

Beaver Brook, Ski-O. Old-style with deep snow (20 inches), with multi-use tracks (snow shoes, tire tracks, ski tracks). It was a "grand tour" around the perimeter of BB. A mix of relaxed classic gliding, balancing, pushing uphill, and trying to keep control. Took 2 dips, 1 on a hard pack downhill, where I totally lost control, another on a shorter down where I started breaking too late and nearly collided with a tree. Some near fall overs on uphills. I also followed a wrong track, and had to actually navigate making my own tracks to # 6. I never took my skis off. Fun, and a good workout. Thanks Lex and Pete for setting this up for us crazies...

Snowshoeing (Snow Shoe O) 34:30 [3] 1.4 mi (24:39 / mi) +60m 21:45 / mi

Then I went out to do the Tan course on my clunker snowshoes. I collected 3 controls on the way. My time is "moving time". Since I was the last out, I could for the most part follow existing tracks. That help my navigation, although, snowshoeing is slow enough to give you enough time to read the map. A good workout - even harder than skiing especially on the steep ups.

XC Skiing 1:01:50 [2] 2.54 mi (24:21 / mi) +20m 23:46 / mi
shoes: L.L. Bean Tele

Around the hole. W Nancy first half, then making a few more tracks. Snow pack is consolidated, tracked sections were slightly iced over. Making new tracks was best for nice gliding.

Classic Skiing 31:00 [3] 2.45 mi (12:39 / mi) +20m 12:20 / mi
shoes: Fisher Waxless Nordic Cr 164

Ski to work. Th College Woods on running trail. I have not skied the trail for quite some time. It requires a good snow cover (rocks and under dense pine sections) and the CW part is often iced up quickly from the hikers. But fabulous conditions today, and on the beginning sections the tracks were reasonably good so actual "classic" skiing at reasonable tempo and intermittent double poling even with my no-wax skis.

Classic Skiing 36:40 [3] 2.5 mi (14:40 / mi) +40m 13:58 / mi
shoes: Fisher Waxless Nordic Cr 164

Skiing home. Warm out, generally slower - ski tracks in CW disappeared in lieu of foot/snow shoe tracks. Still good though.

Snowshoeing 40:00 [1] 2.0 mi (20:00 / mi) +20m 19:24 / mi

The candidate requested a "walk through College Woods", so I brought 2 pairs of snowshoes along - new experience for him as he is from the South. Picturesque winter scenes all around.

Snow Shoveling/Moving 45:00 [1]

Round 2. We got another 7 inches and it is still snowing. Cars, and clearing around driveway and to woodshed. Total accumulation 15".
8 PM

XC Skiing (partially deep snow) 1:34:00 [2] 4.1 mi (22:56 / mi) +60m 21:56 / mi
shoes: L.L. Bean Tele

Finally after a long day of chaperoning etc of a candidate, I got myself out the door. I used Nancy's BC Tele skis - mine had sticky goop on them.
Around the hole. Beautiful out, no wind, moon out, not cold. Snow was "fresh and fine-grained" as it says on most hard waxes. Blue Extra worked great.
First I had to make tracks which was very slow. Then, on the main trails, there were ski tracks, snowshoe tracks, foot tracks, so I used whatever was suitable, but also fresh-tracked a couple of connectors for future use. Ahh! skiiing!

Snow Shoveling/Moving 1:15:00 [1]

Shoveling Phase 1. Cars, pathways, and porch. About 8 inches. By evening there was a total of 10 inches. Another 8 are expected overnight - we'll see.

Too bad I don't have time to play in it. Instead I have to do contingency planning for two on-site interviews that coincide with these storms amidst partial shutdown of the campus. Hours of emailing....grrrrr

Road Running 21:45 [2] 2.5 mi (8:42 / mi) +20m 8:29 / mi
shoes: On Cloud light gray

Running around the block and delivering the very last mortgage payment. Clyde and I will miss the monthly chatting occasion, but wowed to not stop it entirely.
