Strength & Conditioning (Gym workout) 8:00 [1]

Perfect abs, because I went to the gym for core workout, but it was cancelled, I think because everyone was eating Easter eggs, so I ended up in......

Cycling (Spin Class) 1:00:00 [3]

...spin with Jacqui. Ouch! I felt surprisingly reasonable, not strong or owt, and she did work us hard, but I made it through.
Walk to & from the gym, because I'm getting portly, and I have a lardiness test in 16 days. How's that for motivation.

Orienteering race (JK) 25:36 [4] 3.5 km (7:19 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Flyroc Sept12

Relays, Pwll Du, Womens Short (1st leg) with Olivia & Steph. 18th out of 43 finished teams - not half bad, eh?
I was 23rd on my leg and I wish I was higher up but my legs just weren't playing ball, they were really tired. The terrain was super-congested in places, and played follow-my-leader rather a lot too on some routes.
Pleased to finish the JK strong technically (4 races, not a major blow-out to be seen - big big progress). Also physically there's nothing to report, beyond tiredness.
Now like I said it's overspeed terrain training to be done (after IOC), don't be afraid of making mistakes in training, run HARDER.

Running warm up/down 10:00 [2] 2.0 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Flyroc Sept12

Jog to the start - downhill, nice.

Orienteering race (JK) 1:57:56 [3] 11.6 km (10:10 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Flyroc Sept12

JK Day 3 Long Distance W21E 10.6k / 250m WRE
36th (42 finishers).
Took this really steady, so I thought, but actually looks like my pace was closer to glacial than anything else. Kept map contact, pinballed my way from hole in the ground to hole in the ground. Really strong at this, and I'm very pleased with improved technical work, especially with compass. But too slow, so now the work begins to build confidence and speed in terrain. 3 or 4 short overspeed terrain sessions early in the summer, and again heading into the autumn, should really help.
Map back - and I think the above analysis is as good as I can do now, can hardly remember it (though I remember the thunder from 3-4-5-6, that was scary. Thankfully I saw no lightning, or I probably would have run home crying).

Running warm up/down 25:00 [2] 2.5 km (10:00 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Flyroc Sept12

Up to the start with Olivia. Long way! So ended up with merely time to inspect the warm-up map without time to actually set foot on the thing.

Orienteering race (JK) 49:25 [4] 6.2 km (7:58 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Flyroc Sept12

JK Middle W21E 5.5k 105m climb. WRE. Did reasonably ok. Some rather circuitous routes, though was spiking controls & was clean in the circles. Good test of compass, as straight was definitely great today.
Wobbles at:
1 - usual lack of precision out of the start lost me time near the control -20s
5 - bit far right on my bearing but corrected into it -20s
9 - overtook someone! Very exciting moment
10 - sighted the cairn and headed for it, thinking it was the boulder field on the map (?!) then another swerve back in -20s
11 - bad control. Misread valley as spur, well I did wonder why my compass was a bit off. Bounced off a marsh & swerved back across -60s
14 - bit of a (deliberately) circuitous route to pick up the col, but in hindsight should have headed straight for the hill. Nice line into control, but hesitant, as it was lower than I expected -50s total
18 - too far right on my bearing, picked up boulder then trio of open pits and corrected off them -20s
Total time loss 3:10. Run HARDER.

Running warm up/down 8:00 [2] 1.0 km (8:00 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Flyroc Sept12

Event: JK 2014

Running warm up/down 15:00 [2] 1.5 km (10:00 / km)
shoes: Asics Nimbus 14s

Bit of running, bit of drilling, bit of surveying the route choices of the earlier starters.

Orienteering (JK Sprint) 21:24 [3] 4.0 km (5:21 / km)
shoes: Asics Nimbus 14s

JK Sprint W21E. No major flaps, and good use of map in start lane to ID uncrossable fence gates & likely 1st control.
Hesitation deciding route to 2 (just do it!) but the most noticeable problem was running speed when we hit the open stuff. Run HARDER.
Good planning ahead. However, minimal technical challenge (though more than Spain) means that I can't shake the nagging suspicion that I just ran an Orange course.

Running warm up/down 8:00 [2] 0.8 km (10:00 / km)
shoes: Asics Nimbus 14s

Cool down with Olivia

Into work, early, same time as the FD, and he found the whole spectacle highly amusing
