Testing out tomorrow’s classes. Bring on 6:30am woop!
Note
Knee improved a LOT today, have added in some half-hearted glute work in addition to Pilates eg band walk. Also much glute & tfl trigger point (or at least what I think it might be). Due to see Steve on Thursday so depending how things go I might Physio it for some assessment & advice.
Mon - 15 min tester easy run & yoga Tues - 30 min run (to & from reformer) plus reformer Weds & Thurs working full days Fri - tough Pilates workout. Hill walk. Sat - Wallace parkrun max HR 142 (for Linda’s 200100) Sun - Long run with BARF, bail as soon as into Tollymore (remember map!) so I can jog the last bit.
3 hour yoga masterclass on the connecting vinyasa. Was v interesting esp for alignment & core connections though could have done with another 3 hours to practise :)
Well now. L knee super sore this morning, stabbing type pain lateral & distal to knee. Insertion of ITB?? Or of some sort of calf muscle??? Doesn’t seem like the joint itself tho both legs distal quads are achy. Are they shortening even more that last night’s run aggravated them like crazy??
Eased up as I moved around today.
Not parkrunning tomorrow as a precaution.
Note (injured)
Noting this. I’m sure it’s ITB pain. Lots of reading done and as a result I shall strengthen glutes and foam roll (attempt to release) glute max & TFL.
Running warm up/down 19:47 3.13 km (6:20 / km) +36m5:59 / km ahr:148 max:163 shoes: Dark blue Nimbus
BARF warm-up, after a few skips round the car park in a weird attempt at dynamic stretching.
Running hills 47:02 5.94 km (7:55 / km) +97m7:19 / km ahr:152 max:171 shoes: Dark blue Nimbus
BARF pyramid intervals, first 200m of each was uphill, which I walked (downhill) on the return trip. Cones were every 200m, so reps were: 200 - 600 - 1000 - jog to new start - 1000 - 600 - 200 Was supposed to be 2 x extra 1400m for the final cone but I wouldn't have had time; the group is faster than me plus they were jogging the recovery like a float whereas I was walking to pretty much full recovery. Some heart weirdness walking the final 200m of the first set; all was well till about halfway down when my HR seemed to stick at about 158 or something. Will take a look at the trace.
Knees were really painful from the start and throughout, kinda proximal to the patella, both knees. Like I'd done a huge long tarmac run before. And I haven't. I'd remember that.
EDIT: Well there we go. First ever SVT episode at a walk. FFS. At 18 minutes in, I'm partway walking down the hill after the rep, and it kicks off. Doesn't even make it to 160. That's weird. I need another monitor. Will try AGAIN to get permission. I suppose it's only a matter of time before I'm getting episodes not even in the vicinity of running. Ugh.
Running warm up/down 11:52 1.64 km (7:14 / km) +11m7:00 / km ahr:156 max:170 shoes: Dark blue Nimbus
Jog back to the car park, phew that uphill is tough.
Glad to get back running a session, even if I am slower than a tortoise, but I'm used to that by now.
Ugh no training today, ran out of hours, was close to a run after Explorers, but the C25k course was done and the park was too dark & lonely. Maybe double sesh tomorrow for the craic?
FFS, just need my yoga class to be cancelled and that’s the full set. O postponed on Wednesday & O cancelled on Sunday.
In better news, I had a great chat with Greg about ultra running and he has given me some great pointers. One of which being max HR of 180-age so 142 (soon to be 141) which is v slow. And that’s a max not an average. Which means walking up hills, very strictly, from the start of a race and in long run training. Jury is out on the value, or otherwise, of speedwork. Personally if my legs can take it along with the volume, then I’ll do it, particularly to help improve my gait rather than purely shuffling.
