Unspecified race (trail race) 1:24:27 [5] *** 14.0 km (6:02 / km) +500m 5:07 / km

Arrived at Glenridding at approx 11.30. Temperature was just above freezing, snow on hills at approx 500 metres, weather and visibilty was good but the conditions of the course would be challenging as there had been a lot of rain during the previous week.Helvellyn trail race started at 1 p.m. Decided to take it easy on the climb up to the coppermines(approx 3.5km).I decided to fast walk on about 4 occasions for approx 30 second intervals. After crossing the bridge on to the other side of the fell, just after the coppermine,s the gradient of the hill was downwards for the next 2 km. The track was very muddy and wet. I quickly gave up trying to dodge the puddles. I managed to pass a few people on this section. Between 5-6 was a steady ascent and again I walked some of this section. After reaching Lanty tarn the terrain became much flatter but undulating at times. I managed to pick off quite a few more fellow racers. I finished the race very strongly and for the last few km managed to dip below 5min kms. Finish time of 1,24,27 was more than 2mins better than last year in much worse conditions-very pleased, came 149 out of 249 finishers.

Ran an easy 2.5 mile session to the sheepmount and back to work. Legs and lungs seemed to be ok so decided to do the Hellvellyn trail race tomorrow

Unspecified 38:50 [3] 4.35 mi (8:56 / mi)

Havent run for 3 days due to heavy cold but decided to give it a go today, especially as I have entered a 15k trail race at Glenridding on Saturday and now debating whether to do it or not.Ran the same river route as Friday but at less intensity due to my cold. Weather was terrible(heavy rain and low temperature) but enjoyed blowing out the cobwebs. I will try out a similar distance tomorrow and then make a decision about Saturday. Hopefully I will be fit enough because the route is fantastic with some of the most beautiful views over Ullswater from the side of Helvellyn.
