Started in field of about 20 rides. Let myself be dropped on Clover climb from Jefferson to Stone Road. Caught and rode easy effort with woman who was dropped further up the Clover climb. Skipped the first aid station 10mi and took a short stop at second aid 17 mi at Mendon golf club. Was with or in sight of other riders from that point. Connected with Susie & John Farrell at third aid (alpacas at 26 mi). Rode with them and others long leg to Avon aid at 41 miles... dropped on some hills and rejoined on flat or J & S slowed to let me rejoin. Longish stop at Avon. Left Avon in group of six or so. We rode away on crossing Genesee river and stayed away to final aid at Lehigh trailhead. With headwind and long not steep hills, I got dropped by J & S and reconnected at aid stop. A couple other riders passed us while at aid station. Finally leg of 12+ miles got hard with more gentle grades in headwind however average pace to 60 miles was fastest of day. Last 2+ miles were easier effort. My rear disk brake suddenly malfunctioned.. juddering when applied, a little noise when not applied. Rode it on in after a little time lost trying to find what was wrong. Tired when done. No cramps or pains, just out of gas. Stopped time 46 minutes; total duration 5:26:28.
